Stock Market Live: Sensex, Nifty end flat as gains in PSU Banks offset losses in FMCG shares

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights, Sept 23: On the sectoral front, the Nifty FMCG index shed 1.3 per cent; while PSU Bank and Metal indices gained 1 per cent each on Tuesday.

Closing Bell | Stock market close highlights today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025: Indian stock markets staged a smart recovery in the last few hours of the session today, ending Tuesday's session on a marginally negative note. The BSE Sensex, which hit a low of 81,777 during the day, settled at 82,102.10, lower by 57.87 points or 0.07 per cent. On the NSE, the Nifty50 touched a low of 25,085 before recouping the losses to end at 25,169.50, down 32.85 points or 0.13 per cent. Trent, Tech Mahindra, SBI Life, Ultratech Cement, HUL, HDFC Life, Nestle, Asian Paints, Cipla, Grasim, Eternal, and Hero MotoCorp were the top losers on the Nifty index today, declining up to 2.5 per cent. In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap 100 index slipped 0.3 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap 250 index shed 0.5 per cent. Among sectors, the Nifty FMCG index ended as the top sectoral laggard, dropping over 1 per cent, followed by the Nifty Realty, and the Nifty IT index. On the contrary, the Nifty PSU Bank, and the Nifty Metal index rose over 1 per cent each.
