Live news updates: Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has the support of 37 MLAs: the required to split the party in the assembly without violating the anti-defection law, said multiple news reports. With two more Sena MLAs, he will have 39. His total strength is now 42, including Independent MLAs, said reports.

The Sena is filing an appeal with the Maharashtra Assembly Deputy Speaker to disqualify around 12 rebel MLAs, NDTV.com reported quoting sources in the Maharashtra government's legal team. The list includes rebel leader Eknath Shinde, Tanaji Sawant, Mahesh Shinde, Abdul Sattar, Sandipanrao Bhumre, Bharatshet Gogawale, Sanjay Shirsat, Yamini Jadhav, Lata Chandrakant, Anil Babar, Prakash Surve and Balaji Kinikar.
