Watch: Sri Lankan team practicing ahead of 3rd test against India

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Sri Lanka team led by Dinesh Chandimal was seen practicing in the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi ahead of the 3rd test match against India. India leads the test series by 1-0. India registered a comprehensive victory in the second test by defeating Sri Lanka by an inning and 239 runs on Monday. R. Ashwin was the star of the match who took eight wickets. The third and last test match between India and Sri Lanka will be start on Dec 2.

Denmark, USA wins chilly Antarctic marathon on ice

Antarctica, Nov 28 (ANI): Fifty-five runners set out on Friday to run two huge laps around the Union Glacier exploration camp in Antarctica - an ice marathon at temperatures of minus 25 degrees Celsius. Denmark's Frank Johansen was the men's winner in a time of three hours 37.46. He was followed home by David Weeks of USA. The women's winner was Kelly McClay of USA with Gulay Varan of Great Britain and Turkey second. All 55 runners finished the course and 14 of them qualified for the seven continents marathon club, having run a marathon on each continent. The runners stopped regularly for hot drinks and snacks to top up their energy and hydration levels. Each competitor wore full-face balaclava masks, goggles, gloves, mittens, long john underwear, waterproof running pants and several layers of thermal clothing under their outerwear. India bags five gold medals at World Women's Youth Boxing Championship

Guwahati (Assam), Nov 27 (ANI): Indian women boxers won five gold medals at the AIBA World Women's Youth Boxing Championship 2017, which concluded in Guwahati on Sunday. It is by far the best performance put up by Indian boxers in the tournament. In 2011, India failed to bag any gold medal. Ankushita Boro won the gold medal in 64-kg category. The tally of gold medals for India started after Haryana girl Nitu won the first gold medal of the day, as she eased past Kazakhstan's Zhazira Urakbayeva in the 48kg category finals. Jyoti Gulia (51kg), Sakshi Choudhury (54kg) and Shashi Chopra (57kg) where among others to bag gold for India.

Lionel Messi signs new contract with Barcelona until 2021

Barcelona (Spain), Nov 26 (ANI): Lionel Messi has signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2021. Messi agreed the new contract with Barcelona in July but the club did not release the usual photo of the player putting pen to paper, fuelling speculation he could depart in June 2018, when his previous deal ran out, for free. Messi leads the scoring charts in La Liga with 12 goals and on Friday picked up the 2017 European Sports Media Golden Shoe for being the top scorer in a domestic league last season with 37 goals. Barca can extend their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points if they beat second-placed Valencia on Sunday.

BCCI has lost its reputation, says Anurag Thakur

New Delhi, Nov 23 (ANI): Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur questioned the impact of the appointment of Committee of Administrators (CoA) on the autonomy and reputation of BCCI. Anurag said it is not the same BCCI which it used to be about a year back. He claimed that the board "has lost its reputation, as well as revenue at the international level."

Fans celebrate after Peru qualifies for FIFA World Cup

Lima (Peru), Nov 16 (ANI): Scores of football fans rolled out on streets of Lima on Wednesday to celebrate Peru's playoff victory over New Zealand. Peru bagged the last spot in World Cup to be played next year. Last week, the teams played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Wellington. Although both sides had chances in a tense match in Lima, Peru were more clinical in front of goal. The Peruvians last went to the World Cup finals in 1982. The South Americans are 10th in the latest FIFA rankings and will go into the second group of seeds when the draw for next year's tournament takes place in Moscow on December 1.

Roger Federer named comeback player of the year ahead of ATP World Tour Finals

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): Roger Federer was named the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Comeback Player of the year on Thursday at a ceremony in London. The 36-year-old has won two grand slams in 2017 while he missed most of last year due to injury. Addressing the gathering, Federer said he felt he shared the award with Rafa Nadal who has also won two grand slams after a spell on the sidelines. Federer and Nadal are the top two players in the ATP World Tour Finals that will start in London on Sunday. World number one Nadal is hoping to recover from a knee injury to play in the season-ending showpiece.

On his 29th birthday 'Virat' holds the 'tiniest' bat

New Delhi, Nov 05 (ANI): Indian skipper also called Chiku by his loved ones, turned 29 on Sunday. The 'Men in Blue' team celebrated their captain's birthday with pomp and zeal, despite their defeat in second T20 match against New Zealand on Saturday. The boys brought two special cakes for Kohli. One of the cakes had a miniature Virat holding a bat and ball, and the second cake was designed as a cricket pitch which read 'Happy Birthday Virat'. Smeared with cake, the Indian skipper held a tiny bat shaped cake and shared some snaps on his Twitter handle. The cricketer thanked everyone and wrote "Thank you everyone for all the love and the wishes. God Bless you all.'' The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also wished Virat and posted photos on twitter saying, "#HappybirthdayVirat." This is Kohli's first birthday celebration ever since he took charge as the captain of Indian Cricket Team.

UFC 217: Challengers Bisping, St-Pierre scale for long-awaited rematch

New York (United States), Nov 04 (ANI): Headliners Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre faced off during the UFC 217 ceremonial weigh-ins in New York on Friday. Both Canadian St-Pierre and Briton Bisping weighed 184 1/2 pounds (83.6 kilograms) for their headlining middleweight mixed martial arts match to be held at Madison Square Garden in Saturday. Challenger St-Pierre owned the UFC middleweight title for five years from 2008 to 2013 after which he vacated it and going on hiatus for the last four years. It is his first fight with Bisping since a split decision win at UFC 167 in November of 2013. Current UFC middleweight champ Bisping has held the title since June 2016, which he bagged after defeating Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.

Pakistan marks return of international cricket by defeating Sri Lanka

Lahore (Pakistan), Oct 30 (ANI): Pakistan marked the return of international cricket to the country with a 36-run victory over Sri Lanka in front of a packed stadium in the eastern city of Lahore on Sunday. Man of the Match, Shoaib Malik, said that Pakistanis should feel proud that international cricket has returned to the country. Pakistan's isolation began when a 2009 militant attack on the Sri Lankan team's bus in Lahore left six security personnel and two civilians dead while six players were injured.
