Neymar out for three months with foot injury

New Delhi, Mar 02 (ANI): Paris St Germain forward Neymar faces a race against time to be fit for this year's World Cup finals after the Brazil team doctor was quoted on March 1 saying that he would be out for up to three months with a foot injury.The 26-year-old, who became the world's most expensive player last August when PSG paid 222 million euros ($271 million) to sign him from Barcelona, is to undergo surgery on a fractured metatarsal and a sprained ankle this week. Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told TV Globo that Neymar will need up to three months to recover from the injury. PSG confirmed the injury on February 28, ruling him out of the club's Champions League last-16, second leg, against Spanish holders Real Madrid. Five-times World Cup winners Brazil kick off their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 17.

IOC restores Russia's Olympic membership after doping ban

New Delhi, Mar 01 (ANI): International Olympic Committee has reinstated Russia's Olympic membership after suspending it over doping allegations. Russia's Olympics Committee was suspended by the IOC in December - after they were found to participate in, "unprecedented systematic manipulation" of the anti-doping system. A team of 168 Russians competed as part of a neutral "Olympic Athlete from Russia" team - but two of them failed drug tests. It made the decision after remaining doping tests of Russian athletes at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics came back negative. All the athletes were required to prove that they were clean before the games.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Mar 1 (ANI): In a unique initiative by the prison authorities, a T20 match was organised between Kerala and Sri Lanka prisons in Thiruvananthapuram's Green Field International stadium. The match is conducted as part of Sri Lanka's programme to study the best practices in Kerala jails. The Kerala team consisted of six officers and five prisoners. The prisoners were chosen to play the match by three-level selection process from three jail zones of the state. Sri Lanka won the match by eight wickets. The trophy was awarded by Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran and film actor Jayasurya. The trophy was also designed and carved by prisoners.

T-20 Win: Raina hails Bhuvneshwar's bowling skills

Cape Town (South Africa), Feb 25 (ANI): After India won the Twenty-20 match series against South Africa, Indian all rounder Suresh Raina praised Bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who won the 'Man of the Series.' Man of the Match Suresh Raina said that the bowlers did tremendously well apart from working hard on their body language and gave credits to the bowlers. He also said that Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled really well.

India seal historic series win, top spot in ICC ODI rankings

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): The Men in Blue on Tuesday wrapped up the fifth One Day International (ODI) against the Proteas by 73 runs, to register their first bilateral series win in South Africa. The Indian team also climbed up to the number one spot in the MFR ICC ODI Team Rankings. Being sent in to bat, India posted 274 for seven in their 50 overs. The Virat Kohli-led side started the series on the front foot, winning the first three matches with comprehensive wins in Durban, Centurion and Cape Town.

Skipper Virat Kohli lauds spinners for victory against South Africa

New Delhi, Feb 02 (ANI): The doping bans of 28 Russian athletes were overturned on Thursday, creating a fresh controversy around the International Olympic Committee's position on Russia's participation at this year's Winter Olympics, scheduled to begin in a week in South Korea. "Indian ODI team is strong and we will witness tons from Indian batsmen" said one of the fans. The award was conferred by the Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu. The event was attended by Deepika Padukone and his wife Ujjala Padukone.
