New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday addressed the joint session of Parliament ahead of the Budget session 2019. President Kovind said, "I am happy to inform you that under the 'Make In India' programme, India has already become the world's 2nd largest manufacturer of mobile phones." The Budget Session will conclude on February 13.
Chennai/Hyderabad/Bengaluru, Jan 31 (ANI): As the interim Budget will be presented on February 01, people across the country are looking forward to it. They expect government to decrease the price of commodities, fuel and also the Good and Service Tax (GST) rate. The session will commence with the customary address by President Ram Nath Kovind to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The session, which will continue till February 13, will have 10 sittings, the officials said. It will be the last session of the Lok Sabha before the general elections, which are due before May.
Washington DC (US), Jan 25 (ANI): The United States President Donald Trump on January 24 highlighted some of what he said were unfair, non-reciprocal trade tariffs between the US and India. "Look at motorcycles as an example. India, 50 per cent, it was a hundred per cent. I got them down to 50 per cent just by talking for about two minutes. But it's still 50 per cent versus 2.4 per cent," Trump told reporters at the White House during a press conference on the Reciprocal Trade Act. Earlier this month, Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed reducing the US trade deficit with India in a telephone call, the White House had said.
New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): After witnessing a hike for the past couple of days, the petrol prices witnessed a marginal drop of 8 paise on Wednesday in the national capital while diesel rates continued its upward trend following a hike of 12 paise. Petrol and diesel are today being retailed at Rs 70.33 and Rs 64.59 per litre respectively in Delhi. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, a litre of petrol will cost Rs. 75.97 today after a decline of 8 paise. On the other hand, diesel witnessed a drop of 13 paise in Mumbai and is being sold at Rs 67.62 per litre. The rise in prices comes amidst the revision of global crude oil prices owing to a possible stifling of supply in the near future. The last week of 2018 saw a dip in fuel prices. However, prices have been on the rise since January 7.
The rupee is likely to trade in range, with support at 70.30 levels against the US dollar and resistance at 71.50 levels, says Gaurang Somaiya, Currency Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL).
New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Fuel prices on Monday continued to witness an upward trend with petrol and diesel being sold at Rs 70.13 and Rs 64.18 per litre respectively in the national capital. This is the first time that fuel prices reached Rs 70-mark in the year 2019. While petrol price witnessed a hike of 38 paise, diesel got costlier by 49 paise in Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol and diesel are being retailed at Rs 75.77 and Rs 65.73 per litre respectively. This comes amid the perpetual rise and fall in the petrol and diesel prices across the country. In the last week of 2018, the fuel prices witnessed a dip in its prices by plummeting to its lowest.
Mumbai/Hyderabad/Lucknow (UP), Jan 12 (ANI): Continues increase in fuel prices have increased woes of daily commuters. This has also caused a misbalance in the monthly budget of the commuters. Petrol and diesel prices are at Rs 74.91/litre and Rs 66.04/litre in Mumbai respectively. Petrol has increased by Rs 0.19 and Diesel by Rs 0.31. In Hyderabad Petrol price is at Rs 73.47/litre and increased by Rs 0.20 whereas Diesel is priced at Rs 68.60/litre and increased by Rs 0.30. In Lucknow, Petrol price is at Rs 69.23/litre with an increase of Rs 0.23 and Diesel is at Rs 62.52/litre with an increase of Rs 0.32.
New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): The Chinese government has a reputation for its periodic crackdown on all things. In the latest effort, Twitter users in China are being interrogated for posting content critical of the government. One Twitter user in China was reportedly interrogated by the police for eight hours, while some users are facing threats and even detention for days after posting critical messages. The users are demanded to delete critical posts or their accounts. As CNET reports, the crackdown is said to be part of President Xi Jinping's campaign to censor content posted online in the country. Twitter is currently banned in China, however, people use software to access the popular micro-blogging site.

The December quarter results are also keeping investors in wait and watch mode. The top losers at BSE were Tata Steel, DCM Shriram and Delta Corp, while the top losers at BSE were Hindustan Petroleum, Induslnd Bank, Grasim and BPCL. At 12:04 IST, Sensex was down by 85.57 points, while Nifty 50 index was down by 32.20 points.
Rupee appreciation could continue further. On the higher side, 69.80 and 70.05 can act as resistance levels. Dollar index has continued to remain under pressure. Plunge in global crude oil prices is also a major factor that has led to the appreciation in rupee. New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): India's manufacturing-based export of leather, leather products, and footwear increased by 5.25 per cent in terms of the rupee during April-October period of the current fiscal as compared to the last corresponding period. India exported leather, leather products and footwear of Rs 217505.94 million in April-October period of 2017, which went up to Rs 228929.42 million during the current year's corresponding period, thus registering a growth of 5.25 per cent. As per the membership records of Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Uttar Pradesh contributed a share of 31.35 per cent in total exports of leather, leather products and footwear from the country while Maharashtra contributed 2.28 per cent during 2016-17. As per information received from CLE, the manufacturing based export of leather, leather products and footwear from India increased from USD 5.65 billion in 2016-17 to USD 5.74 billion in 2017-18, growing by 1.65 per cent.

Market expert Sunil Shah said, "We are mimicking the global markets. Dow Jones went up by 1000 points. Today Japan and other Asian markets also are strongly up so we are also up by 300 points. New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley briefed the media post the 31st meeting of the GST Council on Saturday. Speaking on the decisions made during the meeting, the Finance Minister said, "28% slab rate is only applicable on 34 items now. These are luxury items." Further adding that, "There are 28 items left in the 28% bracket if we include luxury and sin items. 13 items are from automobile parts and one is cement. Cement's revenue is 13000 Crore and automobile parts revenue is 20000 Crore. If they are brought down from 28% to 18% implications are of Rs 33000 Crore."
New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after the 31st GST Council meeting informed that tax on monitors, TV Screens and movie tickets have been brought under 18% slab from 28% slab. 18% GST will now be levied in movie tickets above 100 and 12% in tickets below Rs 100. The reduction in tax was done keeping in mind the mass entertainment perspective of movies in cinemas. Several other items including Tyres, Power banks of Lithium-ion batteries have been brought down in the 18% slab. Accessories for carriages for specially-abled persons have been brought down to 5%.
New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley updated on the non-performing assets (NPAs) at a presser in New Delhi on Thursday. The Finance Minister said, "The recognition of NPAs is almost complete, the non-recognition is now at 0.59% which was to the extent of about 7% in March 2015. Last quarter has already shown that there is an improved performance. The downward slide in the NPAs itself would now commence."
New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Minister of State (MoS) Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Wednesday expressed happiness over India's highest ranking in terms of safety in civil aviation by the international regulator Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), on Wednesday. While speaking on the issue, he said, "In 2014, when our government came to power FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) had downgraded India. Subsequent to that we doubled the traffic. We've increased number of airports. So there has been an exponential and dramatic increase in air traffic and airports." International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and FAA conducted an audit of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) this year and in their review ranked India in category one, which is the highest in the world.
