Keylong continues to be coldest place in HP at minus 10.5 degrees C

Tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, the Meteorological department said. Keylong shivered at minus 10.5 degrees Celsius, the Met Centre Shimla director, Manmohan Singh, said. The minimum temperature in another tribal district Kinnaur's Kalpa was minus five degrees, he added. The minimum temperatures in tourist places Kufri in Shimla district and Dalhousie in Chamba district were minus 0.5 and 1.2 degree Celsius respectively. The minimum temperatures in Palampur and Chamba was 3.5 and 3.9 degrees Celsius respectively, he added.

Delhi's air quality recorded in 'severe' category, rainfall may bring respite

Delhi's air quality was recorded in 'severe' category Saturday due to reduced wind speed even as authorities have forecast rainfall in the next couple of days which they said might lower the pollution level. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the overall air quality index (AQI) in the city was 410, which falls in the 'severe' category. An AQI between 100 and 200 comes under the 'moderate' category, 201 and 300 is considered 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', while that between 401 and 500 is 'severe'. Twenty-two areas recorded 'severe' air quality and 13 areas 'very poor' air quality, the CPCB said. In the National Capital Region (NCR), Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida recorded 'severe' air quality, it said. The overall PM2.5 level -- fine particulate matter in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers -- in Delhi was recorded at 287, while the PM10 level was at 443, it said. Chilly Saturday morning in Delhi, light rain likely at night

Delhiites woke up to a chilly Saturday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 7.1 degrees Celsius and the city being enveloped in a cover of moderate fog. Visibility dropped to 300 metres at Safadarjung and 400 metres at Palam due to fog, around 7.30 AM, said a MeT department official. Relative humidity was 100 per cent at 8.30 AM. According to forecast of the department, the day will turn from partly cloudy to generally cloudy by the evening and there is possibility of "very light" rain by the night. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 22 degrees Celsius. A railways official said 11 Delhi-bound trains were running late by 2-3 hours on average, due to fog. The maximum temperature on Friday was 22.3 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum was 4.8 degrees Celsius.

HP's Kufri reels under biting cold at minus 1.1 degrees Celsius

Tourist place Kufri in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district reeled under biting cold at sub zero temperature Friday, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature in Kufri was recorded at minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, Manmohan Singh, the Shimla Met centre director, said. Keylong administrative centre continued to be the coldest place in the state at a low of minus 9.8 degrees Celsius, he added. The minimum temperature in state capital Shimla was 2.7 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees Celsius in Manali of Kullu district and 0.6 degrees Celsius at Dalhousie of Chamba district, he added.

Cold day in Delhi, light rain likely on Saturday

It was a cold day in the national capital Friday with the minimum temperature settling at 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average. The maximum temperature settled at 22.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, a MeT department official said. Eleven trains were delayed due to fog during the morning hours, officials said. Fresh snowfall in most parts of Kashmir, Srinagar-Jammu highway closed

Most parts of Kashmir, including the plains, received fresh snowfall Friday which led to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only all-weather road-link connecting the valley with the rest of the country. The MeT Office has forecast intermittent light precipitation for the next 24 hours. Kashmir, including plains of the valley, received fresh snowfall Thursday night which continued till Friday morning, an official of the Meteorological Department here said. He said Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded 5.6 mm of snowfall till 8:30 am Friday. Minimum temperature in Delhi settles at 5°C

People residing in Delhi continue to battle a long lasting cold as they woke up to a bone-chilling Friday morning. Parts of Telangana in grip of cold wave, Adilabad shivers at

Cold wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Telangana, throwing normal life out of gear, officials said here Thursday. The lowest minimum temperature of seven degrees Celsius was recorded at Adilabad, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its report for the state. "Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Adilabad, Medak and Peddapally districts of Telangana," it said. Medak recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees, followed by Ramagundam (9), Hanmakonda (11) and Hyderabad (11), the report, citing observations recorded at 0830 hours Thursday, said. Several places in Telangana have been experiencing extreme cold conditions for about a month now.

Una colder than Shimla in HP

The plains of Una district remained colder than middle hills of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature in the state capital was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius while it settled at 2.5 degrees Celsius in Una, the department said. Most parts of Himachal Pradesh recorded a slight increase in minimum temperature on Thursday, he said, adding Manali was shivering at the freezing point. Minimum temperatures in Manali and Seogabh of Kullu district was recorded at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and minus 0.2 degrees Celsius respectively, Singh said. The Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of rain or snow from Thursday evening in Kashmir, even as the valley and Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold conditions.
