Money made from drug trade used in terror activities in J&K, says DGP

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Thursday said drug menace has emerged as a big threat as the money generated from the trade is being used in terror activities. He urged the the police department to expedite investigation into cases of narcotics and increase conviction rate. Singh was speaking after chairing an officers' meeting at the police headquarters here to review the targets and goals set for the Jammu zone this year. The senior officer asked his department to work on a mission mode on cases of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2008. Calling for a strict action, he directed the officers to destroy drug-related cultivations in Jammu and seize properties earned through proceeds from sale of narcotics. Ready to help Delhi cops in Shraddha Walkar murder case: Maha police

Police in Vasai town near Mumbai are ready to extend all help to their Delhi counterparts in the investigation of brutal murder of call centre employee Shraddha Walkar, allegedly by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala, a senior official said on Tuesday. The senior official of the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar police told PTI, "We will help the Delhi police in connection with the Shraddha Walkar murder case if they need any help or approach us for assistance." Poonawala (28) has been arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly murdering Walkar, who had stayed in Vasai, in May this year, chopping the body into 35 pieces before dumping them at different places in the national capital over several days. South Korea's police chief admitted "a heavy responsibility" for failing to prevent a recent crowd surge that killed more than 150 people during Halloween festivities in Seoul, saying on Tuesday that officers didn't effectively handle earlier emergency calls about the impending disaster. Odisha govt officer held for possessing crypto worth over Rs 1.75 crore

The Odisha Police on Saturday arrested a government engineer after cryptocurrency valued at over Rs 1.75 crore was found in his possession, officials said. The arrested Additional Chief Engineer (Planning, Monitoring, Design & Investigation) under Rural Water Supply and sanitation was to retire on Monday. He was arrested on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A vigilance court remanded him to jail custody for 14 days. The cryptos were found in a raid on the additional chief engineer by the Vigilance Department in a corruption case, they said. The raid which began on Friday continued on Saturday. As soon as the officer and his family found the investigators at their doorstep, they tried to destroy evidence of the cryptocurrency they possessed, said an official statement. Human sacrifice case: Police seeks custody of 3 people accused in court

The three people, accused in the sensational human sacrifice case, were produced before a court here on Wednesday morning. The arrest of the trio, Bhagaval Singh and his wife Laila and Muhammad Shafi, was recorded on Tuesday, for allegedly sacrificing two women to settle the financial issues of the couple and bring prosperity in their life. The police sought a 10-day custody of the accused for detailed interrogation. According to media reports, advocate B A Aloor, known for representing the accused in several sensational cases, appeared in the court for the trio in this case. On Tuesday night, senior IPS officer R Nishanthini, who gave lead to the exhumation procedures at the couple's house in Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta, where the bodies of the victims were buried after being chopped in pieces, said prima facie the crime was committed to settle the financial issues of the couple and to bring prosperity in their life. Amidst the parleys between the two northeastern states to find an amicable solution to the vexed border issue, the Mizoram police alleged that Assam policemen have constructed two temporary huts in the disputed Zophai area. Kolasib superintendent of police Vanlalfaka Ralte told PTI over the phone that the Assam police erected two temporary huts in Zophai area on October 2 at a place opposite to Mizoram's first chief Minister Ch Chhunga's paddy field where a border clash had occurred in 2018. The huts were, however, dismantled on Monday by the Assam police itself, he said. The authorities in Assam could not be contacted for comments. The tension in the area due to the construction of the huts dissipated after the huts were razed demolished. The area is contiguous to Hailakandi district in Assam. Communal tension grips Lakhimpur as molestation victim succumbs to injuries

Communal tension gripped a village here after a 20-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries sustained in an attack on Monday allegedly by two men during a molestation attempt. She died on Friday at her home, police said. The woman was allegedly attacked by two Muslim youths with sharp edged weapons. After her death, police added charges of culpable homicide to the original FIR, which was filed after the incident. A police outpost in-charge has also been suspended for not heeding to the family's complaint, in which it had alleged that the woman was molested. Manipur Police arrests 5 govt officials for tampering land records

The Manipur Police has arrested five officials for allegedly manipulating land records and issuing forged documents, a senior officer said. Additional DGP (law and order) Clay Khongsai said the five officials, including a sub-deputy collector (SDC), were apprehended for issuing fake pattas (land documents). "The accused persons have issued 35 fake pattas to individuals, resulting in a loss of around 19 acres of forest land in Thoubal district," the officer said on Sunday. Land records of 17-Chaobok sheet number IV have been found tempered, he said. "The sub-deputy collector of Chandel district, the prime accused in this fraudulent activity, had served as the circle mandal in charge of Supervisor Kanungo of Irong Chesaba when the pattas were issued and the village map was manipulated", the police officer said.

Sonali Phogat was administered methamphetamine by accused: Goa Police

BJP leader Sonali Phogat was administered methamphetamine drugs by the accused at a restaurant in North Goa hours before her death, Goa Police said on Saturday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi said left-overs from the drugs which were given to her at Curlies Restaurant at Anjuna have been seized from the restaurant's washroom. Police have so far arrested her personal assistant Sudhir Sagwan, another aide Sukhwinder Singh, owner of the Curlies Restaurant Edwin Nunes and alleged drug peddler Dattaprasad Gaonkar. While Singh and Sagwan are charged with murder, Nunes and Gaonkar are booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The drugs given to her have been identified as methamphetamine, Dalvi said. They were supplied to Sagwan and Singh by Gaonkar who worked as a room boy at Hotel Grand Leoney Resort in Anjuna where Phogat and others were staying. Phogat was brought dead to a hospital on August 23.
