Honda motorcycle sells over 60,000 units of BS-VI Activa, SP 125 bike

The country's second largest two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle on Tuesday said its BS-VI versions of Activa scooter and a brand new bike SP 125 have cumulatively sold over 60,000 units. While the BS-VI model of Activa was launched in September and is available widely across the country, the brand new bike SP 125 was launched on November 20, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said. It can be noted that beginning April 1, only BS-VI models will be sold as the country pushes to cut carbon emissions from automobiles. From the new fiscal, all the fuels sold in the country will also be of low in carbon and sulphur as the government decided to skip BS-V and jump straight from BS-IV emission norms. Accordingly, almost all auto companies have announced commencement of production of BS-VI models from next month and reducing output of the existing versions. While the price tag for the new Activa -- the world's largest selling scooter -- starts from Rs 67,490, which is 10-13 per cent higher ..

Honda Manesar plant employees protest 2,500 contractual workers' sacking

Workers of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's (HMSI) Manesar plant on Wednesday took out a march to protest against the sacking of 2,500 contractual workers at the facility. The workers marched from the plant to Gurugram Mini Secretariat. A worker union leader claimed that around 5,000 workers participated in the protest. The Japanese two-wheeler major had resumed operations at the plant earlier this week with permanent employees joining work. HMSI had suspended operations at the plant from first week of November as workers protested for over a week against the retrenchment of their contractual colleagues. The stand off at the facility, which employs around 1,900 permanent workers and 2,500 contract workers, began on morning of November 5 when the company management did not allow some of the contractual workers to go inside the plant. The sacked contractual workers, though, continue to protest at the site. "Around 5,000 workers participated in the protest march today. Workers fr

Honda to sell diesel cars in India even after BS-VI emission norms kick in

Japanese auto major Honda will continue to offer diesel models in India even after BS-VI emission norms kick in, unlike Maruti Suzuki which has decided to stop selling diesel cars from April 1, 2020. According to a senior official of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), the company plans to upgrade its two diesel engines, which power models like Amaze, City, WR-V, BR-V, Civic and CR-V to conform to stricter BS-VI emission norms. The auto major plans to start rolling out models with upgraded BS-VI engines in both petrol and diesel from the fourth quarter of this fiscal. "From our experience, for the fuel choice among petrol or diesel, 80 per cent of customers make a rational choice based on consideration of driving distance and recovery period. However, there are still 20 per cent customers who make an emotional choice towards a particular fuel," HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Marketing & Sales) Rajesh Goel told PTI. The company will take care of these 20 per cent emotional ...
