Honda closes gap with Bajaj Auto for number two spot in bike segment

Honda Motorcyle & Scooter India (HMSI) is snapping at the heels of Bajaj Auto for second spot in the domestic motorcycle segment, with the gap between the two companies coming down to a meagre 14,200 units during the ongoing fiscal. In the April-February period last fiscal, the gap between the two companies stood at 3,98,525 units. As per the latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM), Bajaj Auto has so far sold 18,15,590 units in the April-February period of the current fiscal while HMSI has sold 18,01,390 units in the same period. Hero MotoCorp with a sale of 58,72,966 units during the period continues to lead the bike segment in the country. HMSI, which is already a leader in the scooter segment, had sold 14,51,417 units during the same period last fiscal while that of Bajaj Auto stood at 18,49,942 units. Honda appoints Gaku Nakanishi as president and CEO of India operations

Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co today announced appointment of Gaku Nakanishi as the President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd. Nakanishi, who will take over from incumbent Yoichiro Ueno, will assume the role from April 1, consequent to the management changes announced annually by Honda Motor Co., Ltd, the company said in a statement. Ueno will move to New Business Strategy Division, Business Development Supervisory Unit in Honda Motor Co., Ltd for accelerating formulation of new business strategy and pursuit of open innovation in the area of future mobility, it added. During his tenure in India, Ueno was instrumental in fortifying the premium brand positioning of Honda and spearheaded introduction of several premium models in India including BR-V, Accord Hybrid, New City and WR-V, the company said. Honda to invest Rs 1,000 cr in new 0.6 m assembly line, products

The second largest two-wheeler maker Honda today said it will invest over Rs 1,000 crore in a new 0.6 million-unit assembly line and develop four new products to help it realise the 20 per cent sales growth target set for itself for fiscal 2018. "We will be opening the fourth assembly line at our Karnataka plant by July this year. This will be our 11th assembly line in the country. We will also launch four brand new models this financial year - two each scooters and bikes. For all these we have budgeted over Rs 1,000 crore in capex this year," Minoru Kato, the newly-appointed president & chief executive at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) told reporters here today at his maiden media interaction.
