Mehrauli murder: Experts say Poonawala's confessions have no legal validity

The reported "confessions", including those allegedly made before a magistrate, by Mehrauli killing accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala do not have conclusive legal validity, experts said, doubting that several key conditions were not fulfilled. Though police and other official sources have claimed that Poonawala had confessed to killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body, his counsel has said Poonawala had denied that he had confessed. The legal experts also questioned Poonawala's confession before a magistrate through video conferencing and termed it objectionable and unprecedented. News reports quoting sources in the Delhi Police have claimed on multiple occasions that Poonawala had confessed to killing Walkar, cutting her body into 35 pieces and dumping them in different areas of the city. On Wednesday, it was reported that he has confessed to his crime in a polygraph test conducted at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini, to which retired Delhi

BJP deployed 17 Union ministers to fight 'aam aadmi' in MCD, says Kejriwal

Ahead of the December 4 municipal polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed the BJP has deployed 17 Union ministers to fight an 'aam aadmi' like him and said this was done to cover up the party's "inefficiency" during its tenure in the civic body. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls are being seen as a high stakes contest with the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress eyeing to wrest it from the BJP which ruled it for 15 years. The AAP will get rid of corruption from the MCD in just three to four months, if voted to power and "mark my words, you will not need to pay an extra penny to get your work done in the MCD", asserted Kejriwal, who led a roadshow from Malka Ganj Chowk near Kamla Nagar to Ghanta Ghar Chowk. People gathered in large numbers and the stretch was dotted with blue, yellow and white as they danced and sang to the beats of drums while waving AAP flags. Kejriwal assured that all MCD employees will get their salary in the

Mehrauli killing: Officials attribute DNA analysis lag to staff crunch

Even after more than two weeks of accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala's arrest, there is no conclusive proof that the body parts recovered in the Mehrauli murder case are that of Shraddha Walkar, and a section of experts have raised questions over the delay in DNA profiling. Poonawala was arrested on November 12 for allegedly strangulating Walkar in May, chopping her body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his Mehrauli residence in South Delhi, before dumping them across the city over several days. Police have reportedly recovered 12 human body parts on November 13 and sent these to a laboratory, which is yet to extract the DNA and match it with Walkar's family members. Authorities in the know of things, however, chose to remain tight-lipped on this. "We cannot reveal anything about the body parts found since we have to maintain high secrecy in such cases," Assistant PRO at Forensic Science Laboratory, Rohini, Dr Rajnish Kumar Singh said. Top .
