A 28-year-old man allegedly fired at a police team which had arrived to arrest him in a bailable offence case, officials said on Saturday. Accused Shoukat Ali alias Parvez was booked for an offence under Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code at Ranhola police station. A police team raided his residence in West Delhi's Mohan Garden area on Friday. In a bid to escape, he shot at the police party, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan said. In self defence, the police too opened fire on Parvez and it hit his leg. He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, the DCP said.

Delhi Police has booked two Popular Front of India (PFI) members under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their alleged suspicious activities, officials said on Wednesday. A senior police officer said an FIR has been registered against two PFI activists under IPC sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), along with section 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Khajuri Khas police station, for allegedly planning and conspiring against the government and the country. Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the banned outfit Popular Front of India under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in southeast Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area, an official said on Monday. The government has imposed a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates -- Rehab India Foundation (RIF), All India Imams Council (AllC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO) and other organisations as unlawful associations for its alleged terror activities. The development also comes after Delhi Police's Special Cell unit along with district police conducted raids across six districts in the city last week and nabbed 30 people allegedly linked with PFI. The top court noted that FIRs in the case of Sharma have also been transferred to IFSO Unit of Delhi Police for investigation and there cannot be two investigating agencies with respect to the same complaints arising out of the same incident. A bench of Justices M R Shah and Krishna Murari said no coercive action shall be taken against Kumar for a period of eight weeks so she can avail remedies in the interim period. "The IFSO unit of Delhi Police shall be at liberty to collect and gather any information from the concerned State agencies, if so required, for the purpose of conducting a thorough investigation and taking it to its logical conclusion. The Delhi Police identified 20 crash-prone zones as hit-and-run zones in the city in 2021, according to an official report. The criteria to identify such zones was based on three or more fatal crashes (hit-and-run cases) registered within the range of 500-metre diameter, the report released by the city police said. Shastri Park/IT Park, Punjabi Bagh Chowk, Mukarba Chowk, Seemapuri roundabout and Bhalswa Chowk reported four fatal crashes (hit and run) each. Similarly, Haider Pur Metro Station, Libaspur bus stand, Prem Bari pull, Rajdhani Park, Rama Road crossing, GTK Depot, Okhla More reported three fatal crashes (hit and run) each, the report stated. "Installation of CCTV cameras and stationing of CATs ambulances at these places can be effective in preventing fatalities. These are the places with high-speed corridors and the places where there is heavy vehicle movement during the night," it added.
The Delhi Police has listed "disobeying traffic rules" and "over-speeding" as two major reasons behind road accidents in the city in 2021, according to a report. While causes were mentioned for 320 fatal road accident cases, no such factor was highlighted for 886 such cases in the report prepared by the Delhi Police. According to the report, 277 fatal crashes were caused as traffic ruled were disobeyed, 213 such cases occurred due to over-speeding, five for taking sharp U-turns and three for "unguarded civil work". Faulty road engineering or design was responsible for five crashes. Two cases were caused due to the lack of a central verge on the road, two cases were due to sharp curves and one was due to the absence of road signs. Two cases were reported due to mechanical faults in vehicles -- one of the vehicles broke down and the other one was due to a tyre burst. The Delhi Police has told the Delhi High Court that a laptop and other devices seized from Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair are deposited with the forensic science laboratory for recovering data that needs to be analysed regarding an alleged objectionable tweet posted by him in 2018 against a Hindu deity. The police made the submissions in an affidavit filed in the high court in response to a plea by Zubair against his arrest and search and seizure exercise in a case related to the alleged objectionable tweet. Zubair has challenged the legality and propriety of a trial court's June 28 order granting the custody of fact-checking website's founder to the police for four days. As an interim relief, Zubair's counsel has sought that till the petition is decided by the high court, the police shall not venture into Zubair's laptop as the tweet was made through a mobile phone and not the computer.
