Chhattisgarh: VHP calls for state bandh after communal clash in Biranpur

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a statewide bandh in Chhattisgarh on Monday after a communal clash in Biranpur village of Bemetara district left one person dead and three policemen injured. All roads leading to the village have been barricaded by the police. Senior security personnel and district administration officials have been camping in the village since Saturday when the violence erupted. The situation remained tense on Sunday and a huge posse of police personnel was deployed to avoid any flare-up. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has appealed to people to maintain peace. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the kin of the deceased blamed the police for the incident. The violence in Biranpur, having a population of around 1,300 and located 60 km from Bemetara, erupted on Saturday after a fight between some schoolchildren. Chhattisgarh coal levy case: ED conducts fresh searches against IAS officer

The Enforcement Directorate, probing an alleged illegal coal levy case in Chhattisgarh, on Wednesday conducted searches at places linked to a senior IAS officer, a Congress leader, and others in the state capital Raipur, official sources said. The investigation relates to "a massive scam in which an illegal levy of Rs 25 was being extorted for every tonne of coal transported in Chhattisgarh by a cartel involving senior bureaucrats, businessmen, politicians and middlemen", the agency has said. Visuals on Wednesday morning showed paramilitary personnel in the residence of IAS officer Anil Kumar Tuteja, Raipur Mayor and Congress leader Aijaz Dhebar and liquor businessman Baldev Singh Bhatia alias Pappu Bhatia, where according to officials, searches are underway. Enforcement Directorate conduct searches in Chhattisgarh coal levy case

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted fresh searches at multiple locations in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh as part of its ongoing money laundering investigation into an illegal coal levy case, official sources said. The investigation relates to "a massive scam in which illegal levy of Rs 25 was being extorted for every tonne of coal transported in Chhattisgarh by a cartel involving senior bureaucrats, businessmen, politicians and middlemen", the agency had earlier said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had said an amount of at least Rs 540 crore was "extorted" over the last two years. Premises related to those allegedly linked to Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Ramgopal Agrawal and arrested coal businessman Sunil Agarwal, besides a few others, in state capital Raipur and in Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh were searched, the official sources said. Chhattisgarh CM announces procurement of 20 quintals of paddy per acre

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday announced that the state government will procure 20 quintals of paddy per acre instead of the existing 15 quintals. He made the announcement in the state Assembly while replying to discussions on the Chhattisgarh Appropriation Bill, 2023. The Congress-ruled state would be facing Assembly elections by the end of this year. After discussions, the budget of 1,21,500 crore for 2023-24 was passed in the House. His government was committed to empowerment of 'annadata' (crop growers) and had decided to procure 20 quintals of paddy per acre in place of existing 15 quintals per acre, Baghel said. Further, educated unemployed youth in the state will be given allowance of Rs 2,500 from April 1, he announced. Unemployed youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years who have passed class 12, and with annual family income of less than Rs 2.50 lakh will benefit from the scheme, he said.

Chhattisgarh GSDP to grow by 8% at constant prices: Economic Survey

The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Chhattisgarh at constant prices is estimated to grow by 8 per cent and the per capita income is likely to reach Rs 1,33,898 for the fiscal 2022-23, as per the state's Economic Survey Report presented in the Assembly on Friday. The report, which was tabled by state Planning, Economics and Statistics Department minister Amarjeet Bhagat, said Chhattisgarh's GSDP at constant price (base year 2011-12) as per advance estimates is expected to grow at 8 per cent and reach Rs 2,89,08,241 lakh in 2022 -23 as against quick estimates of 2,67,68,086 lakh in FY 2021-22. The biggest contributor to the surge in GSDP has been the service sector with expected growth of 9.21 per cent from Rs 82,94,627 crore (2021-22) to Rs 90,58,266 crore (2022-23), the report said.
