The Congress on Monday termed the Enforcement Directorate raids against party leaders in Chhattisgarh as an example of "third rate politics" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said it will not be intimidated by such "tactics". This is not 'Amrit Kaal' but an "undeclared emergency", Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said at a joint press conference with party spokesperson Pawan Khera. They charged that the prime minister is practising the politics of "vendetta and vengeance" by raiding Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh. Ramesh alleged that the probe agencies are being misused by the present regime. He said 17 opposition parties have already come together against grant of powers to the ED under the PMLA and the opposition will jointly file the review petition in the Supreme Court against its previous judgement on the issue. Soren becomes first J'khand CM to visit former Maoist hotbed 'Budha Pahad'

Hemant Soren on Friday became the first Jharkhand chief minister to visit the Budha Pahad' once a Maoist hotbed that was freed from the red rebels' control by security forces after over three decades situated near the border with Chhattisgarh, officials said. Soren arrived at the hilltop a little after noon, where the CRPF has now set up a camp, they said. He is expected to launch a slew of welfare schemes in Budha Pahad', located around 150 km from state capital Ranchi, along the Latehar and Garhwa districts. Security forces managed to free the area from the grip of Maoists through three special operations that were launched since the beginning of April 2022. A total of 14 Maoists were killed, while 590 others were either apprehended or had surrendered during these operations, the officials said. Earlier attempts to drive out the red rebels from Budha Pahad' did not materialise due to its difficult terrain, they added.

Baghel announces allowance for unemployed youth from next financial year

In a major announcement ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls due this year-end, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said unemployed youth will be given a monthly allowance in the state from the next financial year. It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years. Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel made a number of other announcements, including setting up of an aerocity near Raipur airport, housing assistance scheme for labourers and a scheme to promote women entrepreneurship, apparently eyeing the Assembly elections.
