The Central Vigilance Commission has asked public sector banks, undertakings and central government departments to regularly identify sensitive posts and ensure the rotation of officers manning them within the prescribed time limit. The move came after the CVC noticed that many of the organisations are not following its guidelines about the identification of sensitive posts in letter and spirit. In an order, the commission said the Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) -- who act as distant arm of the panel to check corruption -- in consultation with the chief executive/management of the respective organisations, should immediately undertake an exercise to identify sensitive posts in their organisations. "In future, an exercise to review and identify sensitive posts may be conducted after an interval of every three years," said the order dated October 25. The government on Tuesday appointed Sangeeta Verma as the acting chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The appointment follows full-time Chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta demitting office on Tuesday. Verma is currently a member at the regulator. Her appointment will be effective from Wednesday for a "period of three months or till appointment of regular Chairperson or till any further orders, whichever is the earliest," according to an official order. Gupta had taken over as the CCI chairperson in November 2018.

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday said the Centre, along with Assam government, is trying to find a pragmatic and sustainable solution to the state's flood and erosion problems. Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said this during his visit to several erosion affected areas of his home district Dibrugarh in Assam. He made enquiries with the common people about the losses incurred due to of the erosion, especially by Brahmaputra and Dibru rivers. He said 40 lakh files have been reviewed and 37.19 lakh square feet of space freed so far. Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Friday said that cash-strapped Mizoram has not yet received its due of over Rs 3,000 crore from the Centre. The government has received Rs 952 crore as dividend from three public sector companies, DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Friday. With this, the total dividend receipts of the government from CPSEs so far this fiscal stands at Rs 16,728 crore. "Government has respectively received about Rs 711 crore, Rs 141 crore and Rs 100 crore from IRFC, NALCO, and CONCOR as dividend tranches," Pandey tweeted.
