Jio to become world's largest 5G network with affordable services: Oommen

India's biggest telecom operator Reliance Jio expects to become the world's largest player having a pure 5G network this year with promise to provide services at affordable rates to the masses, a senior official of the company said here. Speaking to the PTI at the Mobile World Congress, Reliance Jio President Mathew Oommen said India needs inclusive growth and Jio will continue to support it. "Jio will be the largest 5G SA (standalone) only network operator in the world in the second half of 2023, ensuring that all advanced services and capabilities are available affordably to the masses," Oommen said. He was responding to questions around the company's 5G roll out plan and Jio's competitor Bharti Airtel pushing for an increase in mobile call and data services price. Bharti Airtel crosses 10 million unique customer mark on 5G network

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday announced that it has crossed the 10 million unique 5G user mark on its network. In a statement, the company said it is well poised to cover every town and key rural areas with Airtel 5G services by the end of March 2024. The company informed it has surpassed the 10 million unique 5G user milestone, on its network. In November 2022, Airtel became the first and only operator to have 1 million unique customers on its network within 30 days of its commercial launch, the statement added. It is pertinent to mention that high speed 5G services were launched in the country, on October 1, 2022. The 5G services powers ultra-low latency connections, which allow downloading full-length high-quality video or movie to a mobile device in a matter of seconds (even in crowded areas). Reliance to invest Rs 75,000 crore in UP to expand telecom network

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani on Friday announced Rs 75,000 crore investment over the next four years in expanding the telecom network, including roll out of 5G services, retail and new energy business in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the UP Investor Summit, he said his group's telecom arm Jio will roll out 5G services across the state by December 2023. Towns in Odisha to get 5G, 1,814 villages to get 4G by December: official

All urban areas in Odisha will get 5G connectivity by December, while 1,814 villages will get 4G network by that time, an official said on Wednesday. In Odisha, 5G connectivity was launched on January 5 with services in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar through 510 BTSs (base terminal stations), Department of Telecom's deputy director-general BK Nayak said, adding that at present, 13 districts are being served with 5G services by Reliance Jio and nine districts by Airtel. "It is in the rollout phase now to cover all major cities by March 2023, and all cities and towns by December 2023," he said. Total 1,814 villages in the state will be covered by 4G services at an approximate cost of Rs 2,000 crore with a target to complete the project by December, Nayak said. The project is being implemented by BSNL, he said. So far, 42,425 villages have 2G, 3G and 4G services with 25,115 towers. The state has 3.32 crore subscribers, he said. The telecom density in the state was 80 per cent against the .

Jio announces largest-ever launch of 'True 5G' services across 50 cities

Reliance Jio on Tuesday announced the roll out of its 5G services across 50 cities, terming it the largest-ever launch of these services. According to Jio statement, these cities are spread across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Kerala. Other States include Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. With this, Jio users across 184 cities are now experiencing 5G services, the telco's statement said. "Reliance Jio today announced the largest-ever launch of its True 5G services across 50 cities," the company said. Jio users in these cities will be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer, to experience Unlimited Data at up to 1 Gbps plus speeds, at no additional cost, starting today. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday launched Jio 5G service in the state. The service will be initially available in three cities- state capital Raipur, Durg and Bhilai.
