Women's economic empowerment vital to tackle gender inequality: Biocon head

Economic empowerment of women is extremely important to bridge the gap of gender inequality,US-India Business Council Vice Chair and Biocon Executive Chair Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said on Thursday. Speaking at a virtual event on 'Expanding the US-India Partnership: Promoting Gender Diversity at Work', she said gender inequality starts with the skewed distribution that women face when it comes to the distribution of assets or inheritance or workplace employment or representation in socio-political institutions. "Economic empowerment is what will bridge the gap of gender inequality. I think economic empowerment of the women is extremely important," Mazumdar-Shaw said. Even in the corporate world, there is a lot of tokenism in everything we do, she said.
