The national capital on Saturday witnessed a warm day with the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering at 22 Degree Celsius and 13 Degree Celsius.The increase in temperature has improved the air quality of Delhi and its surrounding regions with AQI docking at 144 at 8 in the morning, which falls under the moderate category.According to Skymet Weather, recent rains and flow of northwesterly winds have majorly improved the level of pollution in the last 24 hours. As a result, pollution has been upgraded to 'moderate and satisfactory' level over most places.Moreover, due to the commencement of these winds, day temperatures have dropped by 2 Degree Celsius to 3 Degree Celsius. In the coming days, these will drop down further and come in the lower 20s. Met issues 'yellow' weather warning for hailstorm in HP

The Meteorological Department Friday issued a 'yellow' weather warning for hailstorm in the mid and low hills of Himachal Pradesh on February 26, officials said. A fresh western disturbance (WD) is very likely to affect western Himalayan region from February 24 evening, the MeT Centre Shimla said. Another WD, along with its induced cyclonic circulation, is very likely to affect northwest India from February 26, it added. The 'yellow' weather warning was issued amid a forecast of snowfall and rain in high and mid hills and rain in low hills and plains from February 24 to 28. Some high reaches of the state experienced snowfall from 5.30 pm on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday. Keylong and Kalpa received 23 cm and 4 cm of snowfall respectively, the MeT Centre said. Delhi breathes easy as air quality improves to 'Moderate'

After receiving rains for the two consecutive days, the air quality in Delhi significantly improved on Friday, with Air Quality Index (AQI) docking at 121 at in the morning.An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and between 401 and 500 'severe'.According to Skymet weather, Delhi pollution will sustain this level for the next 24 hours. Educational institutions in Kullu to be shut Friday due to snowfall, hailstorm

After a fresh bout of snowfall, rain and hailstorm in Himachal Pradesh, the Kullu district administration has ordered to close all educational institutions on Friday, officials said. The decision has been taken to ensure safety of students, they said. All education institutions in Kullu district will remain closed on Friday as a number of roads have been closed due to snowfall in upper parts and rain in lower parts of the district, Kullu District Magistrate Yunus said in his order issued on Thursday. Yunus also advised the local people and the tourists not to venture in sensitive areas near snowbound hills and nullahs in view of prediction of more snowfall and rain in the coming days. UK experts to enhance reach of Radio Monsoon for Indian fishers

A team of UK experts are working on enhancing the reach of a radio service to help fishers in India's southern Malabar Coast make more accurate and accessible marine weather forecasts, which would help save many lives in the region. Radio Monsoon, an outcome of University of Sussex's Sustainability Research Programme, is hoping to graduate from a station operating on a shoestring budget to a fully-equipped studio this year. It is designed to ensure safer working conditions for the thousands of fishing families in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The university team, led by anthropologist professor Filippo Osella, involved geographer Dr Max Martin working with artisanal fishers in Thiruvananthapuram, to convert their small tech experiment into a weather knowledge co-production tool. Higher reaches of Kashmir reach fresh snowfall

The higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while the plains were lashed with rains overnight, the MET Office said on Thursday. An official of the MET Department said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded 29 cms of snow, while Kupwara received 11 cms of fresh snowfall during the night. Snow was also recorded in some areas like Banihal and Jawahar Tunnel along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the official said. He said there are reports of fresh snowfall in few other areas in the higher reaches of the valley. The plain areas, including summer capital Srinagar, received intermittent rains during the night which continued till the morning on Thursday. The MET Office has said there is possibility of rain/ snow at widespread places in the state, with heavy falls at isolated places in Kashmir and heavy to very heavy falls /thunderstorms at isolated places in Jammu on Thursday. Snowfall in Manali, hailstorm in Shimla intensify cold conditions in HP

A fresh bout of snowfall in Manali, and hailstorm in Shimla and other parts have intensified cold wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department said on Thursday. Manali in Kullu district received 11 cm of snowfall from 5.30 pm on Wednesday to 8.30 am on Thursday, the MeT office in Shimla said. Kinnaur's Kalpa got 14 cm of snow during the period, it added. Kinnaur's Pooh received 3 to 4 inches of snowfall on Wednesday night, a district official said. Several areas in mid and lower hills and plains witnessed hailstorm and thunderstorm, it added. The minimum temperature in Manali and Kufri was recorded at minus 1.4 and minus 0.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state at minus 6.8 degrees Celsius, it said adding Kalpa had a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Shimla and Dalhousie was 4.2 and 1.4 degrees Celsius.
