Vyapam scam: Why no action against mantrani & minister's wife, asks Congress

Report about mention of a "'mantrani' and a minister's wife" by a key accused in the Vyapam scam today gave fresh ammuntion to the Congress in its attack againt ruling BJP in MP, as it alleged that STF acted in a pick-and-choose manner due to presseure by government. "Our allegation that the STF is acting in a pick-and- choose manner proved in the case of an FIR in forest guard recruitment case, which mentions that one of the key accused, former Vyapam Controller, Pankaj Trivedi, had told the probe agency about a 'mantrani' (woman minister) and a minister's wife during questioning. It (STF) never found out who they were," state Congress chief spokesperson K K Mishra told PTI. However, it was not clear as to whom Trivedi was pointing to as the FIR does not name any woman minister and minister's wife. In the same FIR, MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav was named as accused number 10, though the High Court had later quashed it with a direction that he (Governor) can be booked once he demits

Vyapam scam: Cong demands Chouhan's resignation over SC order

The Supreme Court order for a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam triggered a fresh round of slugfest with Congress demanding that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan quit on moral grounds and BJP asking the opposition to stop doing politics over it. While both parties welcomed the apex court's order, the Congress used it to target Chouhan, saying his resignation was required for a fair probe and he can come back if he gets a clean chit from the investigation agency. Hitting back, BJP said the court had "appreciated and accepted" the state government's request for a CBI probe and alleged that Congress' attack on Chouhan for his delay in calling for the investigation by the central agency amounted to commenting on the state's High Court as it had been monitoring the probe. Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who has been spearheading his party's campaign for a Supreme Court- monitored CBI probe, said the country's faith in the apex court had increased. "The ...

Calling the Vyapam scam probe his "trial by fire", Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said he was "grateful" to the Supreme Court for accepting his request and ordering a CBI probe and urged the agency to begin investigation at the earliest to bring out the truth. Under relentless Congress attack for the large number of deaths of people allegedly linked with the scam in the state's professional recruitment examination and the delay in agreeing to a CBI probe, Chouhan said he wanted the examination system to be fixed. Chouhan said had he so wished, there would have not been a probe into the scam. "I am grateful. Whatever I have heard of the Supreme Court order. It said 'we appreciate the stand taken by the Attorney General on behalf of the state government and accept the request (for a CBI probe)'. I am very thankful to the apex court," he told reporters. The Supreme Court has appreciated our prayer and accepted it, he noted. Fending off allegations of his ..

After SC's decision, BJP says it was always for CBI probe

BJP today welcomed the Supreme Court decision for a CBI probe into Vyapam scam and deaths allegedly linked with the case, claiming it was always for it, and said Congress should now stop doing politics over the issue. The ruling party hit back at Congress for its criticism of the state government over its "delay" in calling for a CBI probe, saying it amounted to commenting on the functioning of the state High Court which had so far been monitoring the investigation into the scam. It noted that the apex court had "appreciated" the Madhya Pradesh government's request for a CBI investigation. "The learned Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi clearly enunciated before the Supreme Court the state government's stand that it desires a CBI probe. It must be pointed out that the government had already approached the High Court with a similar request. The apex court has accepted it and also appreciated the AG's stand," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told PTI. Whether the CBI probe will be monitored
