Kerala administers 500,000 people with Covid-19 vaccines in past 24 hours

Kerala has inoculated more than five lakh people with COVID-19 vaccine doses in the past 24 hours, the state Health Minister, Veena George said in a press release on Thursday.A total of 5,19,484 people have been administered the covid vaccine in the state.The press release stated that this was the sixth day on which Kerala has crossed this benchmark of vaccinating more than five lakh people in a single day.Earlier, the state has inoculated a total of 5,15,244 people on July 30, around 5,60,515 were vaccinated on August 13, 5,28,321 people on August 14, 7,78,626 people on September 7 and 6,66,936 persons on September 10.Around 81.46 per cent of the population were given one dose of vaccine and 33.06 per cent were given two doses of vaccine, the press release said.There are 1908 vaccination centres, including 1553 government centres and 355 private centres in the state.

Over 761.1 mn Covid-19 vaccine doses provided to states, UTs: Centre

More than 76.11 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. Further, more than 1.65 crore doses are in the pipeline. Over 5.33 crore balance and unutilised COVID vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered, the ministry said. As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the government has been supporting the states and UTs by providing them COVID vaccines free of cost, the ministry said.

Ensure continuous administration of vaccines to prisoners: HC to Kerala

The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to "continuously" administer vaccines to the prisoners and others in central prisons and other jails to prevent spread of COVID-19 there. The high court also directed the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services to monitor the administration of vaccines. With the directions, the court disposed of a plea initiated by it on its own based on a prisoner's letter claiming that no vaccination was being carried out in prisons in the state. The court's order came after the state government informed it that there were only 4,808 prisoners in the prisons in Kerala and that majority of them have been given the first dose of vaccination and special initiatives have been taken to vaccinate the prisoners in different age groups.
