TCS bags Rail Delivery group contract to create UK Rail Data Marketplace

IT major Tata Consultancy Services on Wednesday said that it has bagged a deal from Rail Delivery Group to design, develop, implement, and operate the UK's Rail Data Marketplace. The contract between TCS and RDG (Rail Data Marketplace) is for a term of six years including an extension term opportunity. "Built on TCS Dexam, the Rail Data Marketplace can not only provide data relating to the rail industry but could also present adjacent data sources important to passengers and operators and help deliver an improved experience for users. "In addition, the platform will have the ability to track environmental parameters, which will allow it to support the UK's rail decarbonisation agenda," TCS UK and Ireland, Country Head, Amit Kapur said in a statement. TCS launches virtual Quantum Computing lab on Amazon Web Services

Tata Consultancy Services has launched the TCS Quantum Computing Lab on Amazon Web Services to help enterprises explore, develop, and test business solutions and accelerate the adoption of quantum computing, the Indian IT major said on Monday. While quantum computing is still in its nascent stages, it has the potential to help solve challenges too difficult for classical computers to solve in a timely manner at present, such as enhanced detection of surface anomalies or optimization problems. The TCS Quantum Computing Lab on AWS enables customers to evaluate with agility, the true potential of what quantum technology can realize for their core business operations, it said. Mcap of 9 of top 10 firms climbs Rs 79,798 cr; TCS, Infosys biggest winners

Nine of the top 10 valued firms together added Rs 79,798.3 crore in market valuation last week, with IT majors Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys emerging as the biggest winners. In the last week, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 630.16 points or 1 per cent. The barometer settled at 62,293.64, its fresh record closing high on Friday. Barring Adani Enterprises, all the 10 most valued firms including Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever Limited witnessed gains in their valuation. The market valuation of TCS jumped Rs 17,215.83 crore to Rs 12,39,997.62 crore. Infosys added Rs 15,946.6 crore taking its valuation to Rs 6,86,211.59 crore. The market valuation of Reliance Industries rallied Rs 13,192.48 crore to Rs 17,70,532.20 crore and that of Hindustan Unilever climbed Rs 12,535.07 crore to Rs 5,95,997.32 crore. ICICI Bank's market capitalisation (mcap) zoomed Rs 6,463.34 crore to Rs 6,48,362.25 crore and that of Bharti Airtel gained Rs 5,451.97 cr

Nine of top-10 firms add Rs 2.12 trn in m-cap; HDFC Bank tops chart

Nine of the 10 most valued firms together added over Rs 2.12 lakh crore in their market valuation last week, with HDFC Bank and TCS emerging as the lead gainers. Last week, the 30-share BSE benchmark jumped 844.68 points or 1.38 per cent. The stock markets were closed on Tuesday for Guru Nanak Jayanti. From the top-10 pack, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) was the only laggard. The top 9 firms added a total of Rs 2,12,478.82 crore to their market valuation last week. Among the winners, HDFC Bank added Rs 63,462.58 crore, taking its valuation to Rs 8,97,980.25 crore. Tata Consultancy Services' valuation jumped Rs 36,517.34 crore to reach Rs 12,13,378.03 crore. The market valuation of HDFC advanced Rs 29,422.52 crore to Rs 4,81,818.83 crore and that of Reliance Industries climbed Rs 26,317.30 crore to Rs 17,80,206.22 crore. The market capitalisation (m-cap) of Infosys rose by Rs 23,626.96 crore to Rs 6,60,650.10 crore and Adani Enterprises surged by Rs 20,103.92 crore to Rs 4,56,992.

Action against moonlighting can ruin a person's career and hence, it is important to show empathy while dealing with the issue, a top official from TCS has said. Nothing prevents the country's biggest IT services exporter from taking action against employees for moonlighting when it has evidence because it is a part of the service agreement, but young kids will have to be dissuaded, the company's chief operating officer N Ganapathy Subramaniam told PTI. "The consequences (of taking action) will be that the person's career will be ruined. Background check for the next future job will fail for him...We have to show some empathy," Subramaniam said. He said the company looks at an employee like being a part of the family and given the consequences of any action, would rather focus on dissuading the family member from going astray.
