SHV Energy expands LPG terminal capacity by 30,000 metric tonne at TN plant

SHV Energy Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Dutch multinational SHV Energy N V, has expanded its LPG terminal capacity by 30,000 metric tonne in Tamil Nadu at an outlay of about Rs 500 crore. The facility in Tuticorin would be ramped up from 8,500 metric tonne to 38,500 metric tonne, representing an investment of about Rs 500 crore, the company said on Thursday. SHV Energy Pvt Ltd set up in 1996 under the brand name SUPERGAS has seven import terminals, 20 filling plants. The terminal expansion was inaugurated today by top officials including SHV Energy Bram Graber, SUPERGAS CEO Santanu Guha and other officials, a company statement said. "This expansion will allow us to offer government-run oil companies both the LPG and the storage facilities they need, thereby optimising logistics and strengthening the overall LPG landscape in India, " Graber, who is a member of the World LPG Association Board of Directors, said. PM Modi to inaugurate Kashi-Tamil Samagam in Varanasi on Saturday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday formally inaugurate the month long Kashi-Tamil Samagam in Varanasi, a senior official said. He will also address the gathering during about three hours stay in his parliamentary constituency, Mahanagar Chairman Vidyasagar Rai said. Modi will formally inaugurate the samagam at the amphitheatre ground of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Aimed at reviving the cultural links between Varanasi and Tamil Nadu, the Kashi-Tamil Samagam is being organised in Varanasi. It is an initiative of the central government as part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The programme aims to celebrate the spirit of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' and highlight the Tamil language and culture. The programme from November 17 to December 16 will strive to rediscover the centuries-old bond of knowledge and ancient civilisational linkage between Kashi (Varanasi) and Tamil Nadu.

Low pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal, rains to resume in Tamil Nadu

A low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal soon and rainfall is expected to resume in Tamil Nadu from November 20, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. A cyclonic circulation lies over south Andaman sea and neighbourhood in middle tropospheric levels, the IMD said in a bulletin. "Under its influence, a Low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman sea during next 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually concentrate into a depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours." Hence, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from November 20. Rajapalayam (12 CM) in Virudhunagar district and Ayakudi and Sivagiri (9 and 7 CM respetively) in Tenkasi district received heavy rainfall, during the 24-hour period that ended on November 16 morning. Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudy on Sunday appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take steps to make Tamil official language in Central government offices and also allot funds for its development on par with Sanskrit. RIL to develop multi-modal logistics park in Tamil Nadu, says govt

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has been awarded the work to develop the first multi-modal logistics park (MMLP) at Mappedu in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, the government said on Friday. MMLP Chennai at Mappedu is being developed in an area of 184.27 acres. "MoRTH has made significant progress under this National Master Plan and embarking on the same, MMLP Chennai at Mappedu being developed in 184.27 acres is 1st MMLP awarded to Reliance Industries Ltd for which prime minister laid the foundation stone," the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) said in a statement. Rains pound TN, flights not affected; low pressure over Bay of Bengal: IMD

Widespread rains, moderate to heavy, lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday and the India Meteorological Department said a well marked low pressure area lay over Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, rainfall is expected till November 13 and it could be heavy to very heavy in select regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the IMD said. Almost all parts of Chennai, the neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet, coastal regions falling under Villupuram, Cuddalore, the Cauvery Delta zone regions including Thanjavur district and southern Ramanathapuram as well experienced rainfall. Intermittent showers began on the night of Thursday and it intensified in several regions of the State, leading to waterlogging and disruption in vehicular movement like on the Avadi-Poonamallee stretch. Active Covid-19 case load drops below 1,000 in Tamil Nadu: Health Dept

Tamil Nadu has reported 104 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall tally to 35,93,023, the Health department said on Tuesday. There were no fresh fatalities and the death toll remained unchanged at 38,048 a medical bulletin said here. As many as 169 people recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 35,54,067 leaving 908 active infections. Chennai added 26 new COVID-19 cases, Chengalpet and Kanyakumari 10 each while the remaining cases were spread across districts. Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Karur, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Theni, Thirupathur and Thiruvarur recorded zero new cases each. The state capital leads among districts with 216 active infections and overall 7,92,898 coronavirus cases. A total of 8,126 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of tests so far to 6,98,41,367, the bulletin said.

Tamil Nadu notifies Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary as 17th sanctuary

The Tamil Nadu government has notified the Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary on 68,640 hectares as the state's 17th wildlife sanctuary, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Tuesday. The sanctuary, covering reserve forest areas in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts, is home to 35 species of mammals, 238 species of birds, Leith's soft shelled turtles, smooth coated otters, marsh crocodile and four horned antelopes, and is a wildlife paradise. Grizzled giant squirrel, four-horned antelope, and Lesser Fish Eagle which are exclusively dependent on the Cauvery river and its riverine forest ecosystem, are also found here. These are also red-listed and in urgent need for focused conservation and protection of their habitat. The sanctuary was notified under Section 26-A of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, today.
