Realignment of gas pricing to provide relief to transportation sector: Siam

Realignment of the gas pricing mechanism by insulating the consumers from the spikes in global prices will soften prices and will provide much needed relief to the transportation sector, SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said on Friday. In a statement, he noted that the measure will also help in re-igniting interest in CNG vehicles in India and would go a long way in promoting a clean alternative fuel in various parts of the country. "Incentivising greater production of natural gas will result in reduction in import dependence of conventional fuels, thereby enabling expansion of CNG infrastructure across the country and facilitating wider availability of CNG for vehicles," Aggarwal stated. The Union Cabinet on April 6, approved a revision in the formula for pricing of natural gas and imposed a cap or ceiling price to help cut CNG and piped cooking gas prices by up to 10 per cent. India's passenger vehicle exports up 2% in Q2, Maruti Suzuki leads: SIAM

Passenger vehicle exports from India increased 2 per cent in the second quarter, with Maruti Suzuki India leading the segment with dispatches of over 1.31 lakh units, as per the latest data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. The total passenger vehicle (PV) exports stood at 1,60,590 units in the July-September period as compared with 1,57,551units in the same period a year ago. Passenger car shipments saw a 5 per cent dip at 97,300 units while utility vehicle exports rose 16 per cent at 63,016 units during the period under review, data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed. Export of vans declined to 274 units in the September quarter as compared with 297 units in the same period last fiscal year. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) led the segment during the period, followed by Hyundai Motor India and Kia India at the second and third positions, respectively. SIAM elects VECV's Vinod Aggarwal as its new president

Auto industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers on Thursday elected Vinod Aggarwal as its new president for 2022-23. Aggarwal, the MD and CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, succeeds Maruti Suzuki India Executive Vice Chairman Kenichi Ayukawa. The Indian automotive industry is currently at a very exciting juncture, Aggarwal stated after taking over as SIAM President. "The Indian automotive industry is witnessing rapid adoption and focus on connectivity, e-mobility and alternate fuels, and other technological advancements, to provide the consumers with not just modern, but also safe and environment friendly vehicles," he added. The SIAM also elected Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra as the Vice President. Satyakam Arya, CEO & MD, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles was elected as the Treasurer.
