Bharti group-backed OneWeb granted LoI for NLD, says DoT official

OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit satellite communications company backed by Bharti Group, has been granted letter of intent for national long distance (NLD), while its application for providing global mobile personal communication by satellite is under consideration, a senior Telecom Department official said on Wednesday. Addressing a session hosted by industry body Broadband India Forum (BIF) on Satcom & 5G The Final Frontier', R Shakya, DDG (Satellite), Department of Telecom assured that the government is looking to provide an enabling environment for satellite communications in the country. Referring to OneWeb, Shakya said that the firm has applied for licence on GMPCS (global mobile personal communication by satellite) services and NLD (national long distance) services using satellite constellations. ISRO's GSLV fails to place earth observation satellite into orbit

Indian Space Research Organisation's second mission of the year to place an earth observation satellite by a GSLV rocket faced a setback as the mission could not be accomplished fully due to performance anomaly in the cryogenic stage of the rocket, the space agency said on Thursday. The 51.70-metre tall rocket GSLV-F10/EOS-03 successfully lifted off from the second launch pad at the spaceport as planned at 05.43 hrs soon after the 26-hour countdown concluded. Ahead of the lift-off, the Launch Authorisation Board cleared the decks for a normal lift-off as planned.
