Voda Idea loses subscribers as Jio, Airtel strengthen user tally: TRAI data

India's total mobile subscriber base fell by 3.6 million in September, with Vodafone Idea suffering subscriber count decline even as larger rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel added users month-on-month, according to telecom regulator's data. India's largest mobile operator Jio further cemented its position in the market, adding 7.2 lakh wireless subscriber during September, while Bharti Airtel increased its mobile users' tally by 4.12 lakh. Notably, while Jio led peers in September subscriber additions, its net adds this time were lower than 32.81 lakh subscribers the telco had gained in August. Ailing Vodafone Idea faced subscriber count decline (by 40 lakh), its base shrank to 24.91 crore during September. Jio gets NCLT's approval to acquire debt-laden Reliance Infratel

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on Monday gave its approval to Jio for the acquisition of Reliance Infratel (RITL). The tribunal asked Jio to deposit Rs 3,720 crore in the State Bank of India (SBI) escrow account to complete the acquisition of RCOM's tower and fibre assets. On November 6, Jio had proposed to deposit Rs 3,720 crore in an escrow account to complete the acquisition of Reliance Infratel which is undergoing an insolvency resolution process. Billionaire Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani-led Jio placed a bid of Rs 3,720 crore in November 2019 to acquire tower and fibre asset of debt-ridden subsidiary of his younger brother Anil Ambani-managed firm Reliance Communications. The Committee of Creditors has already approved the resolution plan by Jio on March 4, 2020 with a 100 per cent vote. Reliance Jio tops 4G network speed chart in October, shows Trai data

Telecom major Jio topped the 4G network speed chart in terms of both average download and upload, according to data published by sector regulator Trai. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has dropped BSNL from the 4G speed chart in October as it is yet to roll out 4G services. In October, the telecom major maintained its leadership in download segment by recording an average speed of 20.3 megabits per second (mbps). It was followed by Airtel, which recorded a download speed of 15 mbps and Vodafone Idea (Vi) with 14.5 mbps speed. Jio's 4G upload speed declined marginally to 6.2 mbps in October from 6.4 mbps in September. However, it continued to maintain its lead in the segment. In September, Jio had pipped Vi to top the upload speed segment. Most of smartphone working on Jio 5G, rest models to be ready soon: Oppo

Smartphone maker OPPO India on Tuesday said that most of its smartphones are now working on the Jio 5G network and the rest of the devices will be made ready soon. The company said that all its smartphones that will be launched in India in future will come with support for Jio 5G services. "The brand has started rolling out software updates on their 5G-enabled product series across different price segments to support the standalone (SA) 5G network. Software updates for Reno 8, Reno 8 Pro, Reno 7, F21 Pro 5G, F19 Pro+, K10 and A53s devices are already upgraded for SA network and users can now experience True 5G across cities wherein the network is available. Other models will be enabled for the SA network shortly," OPPO said in a statement. The 5G services were launched by Airtel and Jio in October but several 5G enabled smartphones were not supporting their network. Smartphone companies have been gradually rolling out software updates to support the 5G services of the two private .

Reliance Jio aims to bring Kolkata under 5G service coverage by June 23

Reliance Jio Monday said that major parts of the city will be brought under the telecom major's 5G service by December of this year and the work will be completed by June 2023. The high speed data services will be launched in Siliguri soon and the north Bengal city will be second in the state after Kolkata where the company will offer its 5G services. The 5G launch in Siliguri will be part of the December 2023 dateline for complete coverage rollout by the company in the country, a senior official of Reliance Jio said. . Airtel had earlier announced the launch of its 5G services in Kolkata and Siliguri. Jio has launched its services in select cities and is ramping up coverage gradually. "In the Bengal region, we will soon launch 5G in Siliguri. In Kolkata, the coverage is currently being ramped up on a daily basis.
