Monsoon Session: LS, RS adjourned till 2 pm amid sloganeering by Opposition

Amid sloganeering by Opposition Parliamentarians over various issues, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm on Wednesday.While the Upper House was adjourned once amid the ruckus created by the Opposition over the 'Pegasus Project' media report, the Lower House was adjourned twice first till 11:30 am and then till 2 pm.Earlier in the day, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay gave adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss the 'Pegasus Project' media report.Several Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Manish Tewari also gave adjournment notices in the Lok Sabha today to discuss the Pegasus issue.The Opposition has alleged that names of several Indian politicians, journalists, lawyers, and activists have appeared on the leaked list of potential targets for surveillance by an unidentified agency using Pegasus spyware. Former Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar takes oath as RS member

Former chief executive of Prasar Bharati and TMC leader Jawhar Sircar on Wednesday took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha. He was elected unopposed to the Upper House of Parliament earlier this week. Sircar took oath in Bengali and was greeted by thumping of desk by fellow MPs. He signed the members' register and then greeted Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu with folded hands. Naidu too responded to his greetings. Sircar also greeted other leaders in the House. He was elected to Rajya Sabha on a seat left vacant after TMC MP Dinesh Trivedi joined the BJP before the recent West Bengal assembly elections. Sircar, who was nominated to the Upper House by TMC, spent nearly 42 years in public service and is known as a vocal critic of the BJP government at the Centre.

Rajya Sabha proceedings were on Monday adjourned for almost an hour after opposition parties continued their protests over various issues including snoop gate and farm laws. MPs belonging to the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other opposition parties rushed into the well of the House raising slogans against the government. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said members are being prevented from raising issues of public importance. "We are becoming helpless day by day," he said before adjourning the proceedings till 12 noon.
