Banks walk the extra mile to woo depositors
Indraprastha Gas Ltd, which retails CNG and piped cooking gas in the national capital and adjoining cities, reported a 4 per cent rise in its September quarter net profit as rise in input natural gas prices hurt margins. The net profit stood at Rs 416.15 crore in July-September compared with Rs 400.54 crore in the same period a year back, the company said in a statement. Revenue almost doubled to Rs 3,922.02 crore in the second quarter of fiscal year starting April 1 against Rs 2,015.99 crore revenue in the year ago period. Gas prices have doubled since Russia invaded Ukraine. IGL's expense on purchase of natural gas soared from Rs 929.97 crore in July-September 2021 to Rs 2,610.03 crore in the current year. The firm registered an overall sales volume growth of 12 per cent over the corresponding quarter in the last fiscal, with the average daily sale going up from 7.24 million standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) to 8.09 mmscmd. Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL) on Saturday posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 75.42 crore in the September quarter. The company had reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1.42 crore in the quarter ended on September 30, 2021, a BSE filing showed. Total income of the company rose to Rs 1,501.33 crore in the quarter from Rs 948.48 crore in the same period a year ago.
IDFC First Bank on Saturday reported a 266 per cent jump in its net profit at Rs 556 crore for the quarter ended September 2022 on the back of strong growth in core operating income. The private sector lender had posted a net profit of Rs 152 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Its core operating income (excluding trading gains) rose by 35 per cent from a year ago to Rs 3,947 crore in Q2 of 2022-23 fiscal year, it said in a regulatory filing. Net interest income climbed 32 per cent at Rs 3,002 crore, while fee and other income spurted by 44 per cent to Rs 945 crore in the September quarter of FY23. Total income in the three months to September rose to Rs 6,531.03 crore as against Rs 4880.29 crore in the same period of 2021-22. Asset quality was better with gross non-performing assets (NPA) coming down to 3.18 per cent of the gross advances as of end-September 2022 from 4.27 per cent a year ago. Yes Bank on Saturday reported 32 per cent decline in standalone net profit at Rs 152.82 crore for September quarter 2022 on higher provisions. The bank had posted a net profit of Rs 225.50 crore for the year-ago same period. In preceding June quarter 2022, the net profit stood at Rs 310.63 crore. Total income during July-September 2022-23, however, was higher at Rs 6,394.11 crore as against Rs 5,430.30 crore in the same period a year ago, Yes Bank said in a regulatory filing. The private sector lender improved on its asset quality and brought down gross non-performing assets (NPAs or bad loans) to 12.89 per cent of gross advances as of September 30, 2022 as against 14.97 per cent by end of September 2021. Likewise, net NPAs came down to 3.60 per cent from 5.55 per cent. However, provisions for bad loans and contingencies were raised to Rs 582.81 crore for Q2FY23 from Rs 377.37 crore kept aside for Q2FY22.

CSB Bank on Friday reported a marginal uptick in net profit at Rs 120.55 crore for the quarter ended September 2022 on growth in net interest income. The bank had posted a net profit of Rs 118.57 crore for the year-ago period. Total income rose to Rs 600.12 crore from Rs 555.64 crore in the same period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by the bank. The asset quality of the bank improved substantially as gross non-performing assets (NPAs) fell to 1.65 per cent of gross advances by the end of September 2022 from 4.11 per cent a year ago. Net NPAs too declined to 0.57 per cent from 2.63 per cent. In absolute value, gross NPAs were at Rs 291 crore, down from Rs 587 crore. Net NPAs were Rs 99 crore as against Rs 370 crore.
