Bakery foods company Britannia Industries Ltd on Friday reported a 28.47 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 490.58 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2022, helped by volume growth. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 381.84 crore in the July-September quarter a year ago, Britannia Industries said in a BSE filing. Its total revenue from operations climbed 21.40 per cent to Rs 4,379.61 crore from Rs 3,607.37 crore in Q2 FY22. The company has recorded its "highest quarterly revenue", Britannia Industries said. Total expenses were at Rs 3,773.71 crore in the second quarter of FY23, up 20.25 per cent from Rs 3,138.15 crore in the year-ago period. Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Limited (JSHL) on Friday said its profit after tax fell 49 per cent year-on-year to Rs 253 crore in the second quarter ended September 30. The company had clocked Rs 498.58 crore profit after tax (PAT) during the same period of 2021-22, JSHL said in a statement. Its total income rose to Rs 3,957 crore from Rs 3,772 crore in the year-ago quarter. "During Q2, raw material prices saw a downward trend, with nickel prices falling by 24 per cent quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) and those of ferrochrome by 18 per cent q-o-q. This impacted the realisation and profitability of domestic manufacturers, including JSHL," the statement said. Disinvestment-bound Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI) on Friday reported a 48.81 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 124 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2022. The shipping company had reported a net profit of Rs 243 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, it said in a regulatory filing to the BSE. SCI's total income rose to Rs 1,458 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 1,296 crore in the year-ago period. Total expenses also increased to Rs 1,336 crore from Rs 997 crore earlier. SCI said the shareholders of the company have approved dividend of Rs 0.33 per equity share of face value Rs 10 each. It said the proposed strategic disinvestment of SCI is being handled by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) with the engagement of necessary advisors. SCI is the largest Indian shipping company and the only Indian firm engaged in transportation of LNG.
Tube Investments of India of the diversified conglomerate Murugappa Group has reported a standalone profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 142.46 crore for the July-August 2022 quarter, the company said on Friday. The company registered standalone PAT at Rs 121.42 crore during the corresponding quarter last year. For the half-year ending September 30, 2022 the standalone PAT grew to Rs 276.78 crore from Rs 218.38 crore the corresponding period last year. The standalone total revenue from operations grew to Rs 1,920.32 crore from Rs 1,676.35 crore. For the six-month period, the standalone total revenue went up to Rs 3,889.36 crore from Rs 2,943.99 crore. The engineering business reported revenues of Rs 1,192 crore during the quarter ending September 2022 as compared to Rs 1,207 crore last year. Drug major Cipla on Friday said its consolidated net profit increased 12 per cent to Rs 797 crore for the second quarter ended September 30. The Mumbai-based drug maker had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 709 crore in the July-September period of the previous fiscal. Its total revenue from operations rose to Rs 5,829 crore for the September quarter from Rs 5,520 crore in the year-ago period, Cipla said in a regulatory filing. In respect of the transfer of India-based US business undertaking, the board decided not to proceed with the proposed transfer, considering various factors, including the current operating environment, it added. Shares of the company were trading 0.5 per cent up at Rs 1,154.10 apiece on the BSE.
State-owned gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd on Thursday reported a 46 per cent drop in its September quarter net profit as it slashed petrochemical output after a former unit of Russian energy giant Gazprom stopped gas supplies. Net profit stood at Rs 1,537.07 crore in July-September compared with Rs 2,862.95 crore profit in the same period a year back, according to a stock exchange filing of the company. The profit for the firm that transports and sells natural gas to users like fertiliser plants and CNG retailers was sequentially down 47.2 per cent from Rs 2,915.19 crore profit in the April-June quarter. GAIL's mainstay natural gas marketing business saw revenues doubled but profitability declined 66 per cent as higher gas prices, resulting from a global surge in energy rates following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, hurt margins.
