Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy R K Singh has indicated that people may be free to set up standalone energy storage systems (ESS) as the government plans de-licensing that under the policy for ESS. According to a statement issued by the power ministry, Singh interacted with renewable energy developers, industry and various government representatives to discuss the elements of the draft policy on the energy storage system to promote the creation of storage systems on a large scale across the country. The policy aims at the creation of the technology-agnostic storage system across the value chain of the electricity sector generation, transmission and distribution levels. Power trade volume rises 37% to 27.6 BU at IEX in December quarter

Power trade volume at Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) rose 37 per cent year-on-year to 27.6 billion units (BU) in the December quarter, mainly due to higher electricity consumption. "During the quarter (October-December), volumes on the Exchange grew by 37 per cent YoY (year-on-year) with 27.6 BU volumes traded versus 20.1 BU in Q3 FY21. The growth in volumes was driven by a substantial increase in electricity consumption as well as the resurgence of trading in RECs and ESCERTs," an IEX statement said. According to the statement, the real-time market continues to be one of the fastest-growing electricity market segments on the exchange, achieving a growth of 70 per cent y-o-y, with 4.8 BU of volumes traded during the quarter. The green market, including the day ahead and term ahead market, cumulatively traded 1.2 BU during the quarter and contributed 5 per cent to overall electricity volumes. Power sector employees to go on 2-day strike in Feb against privatisation

The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) on Monday said that around 15 lakh power sector employees will go on nationwide strike for two days from February 23 to protest against privatisation. "National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE) has decided to resort to two days nationwide strike along with call given by All India Trade Unions on 23rd and 24th February," an AIPEF statement said. According to the statement, the NCCOEEE has also decided that core committee leaders of NCCOEEE will meet Governor Punjab on February 1 and handover memorandum to him against privatization of Chandigarh UT Power Department.
