As many as 63 police stations in the country do not have any vehicle, 628 police stations do not have telephone connection and 285 police stations don't have a wireless set or mobile phone, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said there are 17,535 police stations operating in the country now. A total of 63 police stations don't have any vehicle, 628 don't have any telephone connection and 285 don't have a wireless set or mobile phone, he said in a written reply to a question.

Odisha: Slain minister's security officer suspended on dereliction for duty

The Odisha Police on Wednesday suspended slain minister Naba Kishore Das' personal security officer on the charge of dereliction of duty. Brajarajnagar Police Station inspector-in-charge Pradyumna Kumar Swain and Gandhi Chhak Police Outpost in-charge Sashibhusan Podha were also transferred from their place of posting, an official said. The move comes after the state government had on Tuesday transferred Jharsuguda superintendent of police and Brajrajnagar sub-divisional police officer following the killing of the minister. Das, 60, breathed his last on January 29 evening, hours after he was shot by a policeman at Gandhi Chhak in Brajrajnagar area of Jharsuguda district, where he had gone to attend an event. A Muslim militant and convicted bomb-maker who was released from prison last year blew himself up on Wednesday at a police station on Indonesia's main island of Java, killing an officer and wounding 11 people, officials said. The attacker entered the Astana Anyar police station with a motorcycle and detonated one of two bombs he was carrying as police were lining up for a morning assembly, said Bandung city Police Chief Aswin Sipayung. The other explosive was defused. A video that circulated on social media showed body parts near the damaged lobby of the police station, which was engulfed in white smoke as people ran out of the building. Punjab: 403 cops return to police stations after ex MPs, MLAs lose security

After stripping 122 former MPs and MLAs of security cover yesterday, Punjab Chief Minister-designate Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said that as many as 403 police personnel have returned to police stations.Addressing a roadshow in Amritsar, Mann said, "We will utilise police for what they are meant to do (work for common people); we will not bother them (with security duties of VIPs)""We have decreased the security of 122 people and due to that 403 police personnel and 27 police vehicles have returned to the police stations," he informed.Notably, the Additional Director General of Police (security) had ordered the withdrawal of security cover of 122 former MPs and MLAs in Punjab.
