DMK condemns suspension of 12 Rajya Sabha MPs, demands revocation

DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday condemned the suspension of 12 opposition members in the Rajya Sabha and demanded that the Centre revoke the move. "The suspension of 12 Opposition MPs on the very first day of the winter session is highly condemnable. Such acts diminish the democratic spirit of the Parliament. I demand, on behalf of the DMK to revoke the suspension immediately," Stalin said on his twitter handle. Twelve opposition members in Rajya Sabha, including Congress MP Chhaya Verma were on Monday suspended for the remaining part of the winter session for their misconduct and unruly behaviour during the last session.

Kejriwal hails passage of bill to repeal farm laws, congratulates farmers

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday hailed the passage of a bill by Parliament to repeal three contentious farm laws and congratulated all the farmers on this. Parliament passed The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 to repeal the three laws against which farmers have been protesting for over a year. "Wow! What a day in the history of Indian democracy and Indian Parliament. All three black farm laws repealed. Congratulations to all farmers and all Indians," Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the AAP, tweeted. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed the bill amid protest by the opposition who were demanding a discussion on the draft legislation and farmers' issues. In Lok Sabha, the bill was passed within minutes of its introduction in the House.

Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned for day amid Opposition protest

The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned again for half an hour on Monday as the government and opposition were trying to impasse in the House. As soon as the House resumed again in the afternoon, Bhubaneswar Kalita who was in the Chair said, "Since some important discussions are going on, so we have to give some more time for discussion, the House stand adjourned for 30 minutes more (till 3:09PM)."
