Pakistan's electronic media watchdog banned the live coverage of rallies and public gatherings in the federal capital on Monday, hours before former prime minister Imran Khan was scheduled to appear before a top court here seeking interim bail in seven cases. The PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) issued this communique after law enforcement agencies said Khan's appearance before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) could lead to a possible law and order situation in and around the federal capital. Cash-strapped Pakistan has received a rollover of USD 2 billion in deposits for a period of one year from its all-weather ally China to help Islamabad get a much-required bailout from the IMF to stabilise its economy, a media report said on Friday. 5 Glock pistols, 90 bullets dropped by Pak drone recovered by BSF in Punjab

Five Austria-made Glock pistols and more than 90 rounds of different calibre bullets dropped by a Pakistani drone were recovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday from along the International Border in Punjab, officials said. The dropping of the weapons and ammunition took place in Metla area of Gurdaspur sector around 2:30 am. The "infiltrating rogue" drone was fired upon by our troops and later during search of the area a packet was recovered from the field, a BSF spokesperson said. Officials said the cache contained five Glock pistols, ten magazines and 91 rounds. Security agencies suspect the consignment was meant for Khalistani separatist groups in the border state. The Glock is a sophisticated semi-automatic pistol that is used by counter-terrorist forces like the National Security Guard (NSG) and other commando teams. The death toll from a magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck much of Pakistan and neighbouring Afghanistan earlier this week rose to 21 on Thursday, after eight more deaths were reported in remote areas, officials said. Ten died in Afghanistan and 11 in Pakistan after the temblor rattled this South Asian region late on Tuesday. More than more than 130 people were reported injured when roofs of hundreds of homes collapsed. Most of the damage was reported in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan. Television footage showed panic-stricken citizens out on the streets from their homes and buildings, the Dawn newspaper reported. So far no loss to life or property has been reported. The quake not only jolted parts of Pakistan, but it was also felt in north India. Earthquakes are common in Pakistan. The deadliest quake hit the country in 2005, which killed more than 74,000 people.
