Odisha coronavirus update: Reports 69 more deaths, 1,243 fresh cases

Odisha's COVID-19 death count shot up to 6,435 on Sunday after 69 more patients succumbed to the virus, while 1,243 fresh cases raised the tally to 9,87,070, a health department official said. The coastal state now has 12,129 active cases and 9,68,453 people have so far recovered from the disease, including 1,525 since Saturday, he said. The case fatality rate, however, stands at 0.65 per cent, one of the lowest in the country, the official said. The CFR national average is at present 1.34 per cent. Khurda, comprising state capital Bhubaneswar, reported the highest of 399 new infections, followed by Cuttack (177). While there were no new cases in Koraput district, 27 others registered below-100 daily cases. The fresh fatalities include 21 deaths from Khurda district, Cuttack (13), Sambalpur (8), Balasore and Sundergarh (6 each). Odisha's Khallikote Autonomous College gets unitary university status

The Khallikote Autonomous College, one of the oldest colleges in Odisha, was given the status of a unitary university, officials said on Tuesday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced in May that unitary university status would be granted to the 165-year-old college, located in Berhampur town in Ganjam district. Some of the university's existing problems, including staff crunch, will be solved gradually, while recruitment of new teachers will be carried out, an official said. The institution was started as a school in 1856 in Berhampur and became an intermediate college in 1878. The autonomy was conferred to it in 1990. It got an 'A' grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2017, according to the college website. A unitary university is a varsity that acts as a single unit without any affiliated college under it. Britannia to invest Rs 94 cr to up production capacity at Odisha plant

Home-grown food company Britannia Industries on Friday said it will invest Rs 94 crore to increase production capacity at its Odisha plant. The company will add two new manufacturing lines that will increase its production capacity by nearly 85 per cent to 65,000 metric tonnes per annum from the current 35,000 metric tonnes per annum, said Britannia Industries in a statement. The plant, which will manufacture Britannia's flagship brands comprising Marie Gold, Vita Marie Gold, Tiger Glucose & Good Day, will also generate additional employment to 450 people after the investment, the Wadia group company added. "The new capacities in Odisha will be operational by October 2022," said Britannia Industries. The new manufacturing lines will feature fully automated processing and packing lines, as well as the latest warehousing infrastructure to optimise supply chain and quality management.
