May Day: Gadkari says boosting private investment must for job generation

The government needs to encourage private sector investment in order to boost jobs in the economy, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. "Till entrepreneurs do not bring in capital investment, there will be no jobs. We need to encourage investments and also ensure that employers do not exploit the workers," Gadkari said, at an event to celebrate International Workers' Day here. Irrigation project: Rs 6k-cr proposal sent to World Bank, says Gadkari

Union minister Nitin Gadkari today announced World Bank-supported Rs 6,000 crore scheme to improve the irrigation facilities and water accessibility capacity in several states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. Gadkari announced this at the inauguration of Agrovision Exhibition here today. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, who was present on the occasion, performed e-jalpoojan of Nerala Lift Irrigation Scheme and right bank canal of Gosikhurdh Irrigation project. "A proposal Rs 6,000 crore project has been sent to the World Bank from my ministry and this scheme will start very soon in these states," the minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources said. Nitin Gadkari to meet developers to fast-track road projects

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today said a meeting of highway developers and officials from the NHAI and the road ministry will soon be convened for expediting highway projects. It assumes significance in the wake of highway builders' body National Highways Builders Federation (NHBF) taking a strong exception to the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) move to put in public domain the names of as many as 20 companies, including Larsen & Toubro and HCC, that were barred from bidding for highways projects and saying it had no authority to do so. "I will soon chair a meeting of highway developers and officials of NHAI besides the ministry to ensure that highway projects are expedited," Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister told PTI. The minister said the government is also trying to reduce the turnaround time of highway projects to significantly enhance the construction pace.
