Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that he wants to introduce skybuses on select stretches of Delhi and Haryana to reduce traffic and pollution. Gadkari further said that climate agenda is the highest priority for the government as economic growth with pollution is not a good strategy. "I want to start skybuses (mass transit service) from Dhaula Kuan to Manesar and later extend it to Sohna to reduce traffic and pollution," he said, without providing more details. The minister was addressing an event organised by Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Gadkari said his dream is to reduce import of fossil fuels in India to zero. The minister said the government's priority is to make green hydrogen from water. More than 1.3 mn vehicles recalled in FY22 due to safety issues: Gadkari

Vehicle recalls in India rose to a three-year high in 2021-22, with more than 13 lakh two-wheelers and passenger cars recalled over safety issues, Parliament was informed on Thursday. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari cited data maintained by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and said 8,64,557 two- wheelers and 4,67,311 passenger cars were recalled in 2021-22 in the country due to safety defects. He informed the House that 1,60,025 two-wheelers and 25,142 passenger cars were recalled till July 15 of current financial year. While more than 3.39 lakh vehicles (two-wheelers and passenger cars) were recalled in 2020-21, the number of vehicles recalled in 2019-20 stood at 2.14 lakh, he said. Gadkari further said the total number of road accidents involving cars, taxis, vans and light motor vehicle (LMV) in calendar year 2020 was 60,986. More than 1.3 million electric vehicles registered in country: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said more than 13 lakh electric vehicles are registered in the country. This figure excludes the data of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep, the Road Transport and Highways minister said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Gadkari said under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) Phase-II scheme, 2,877 public EV charging stations have been sanctioned in 68 cities and 1,576 EV charging stations across 9 expressways and 16 highways. "The number of electric vehicles in the country is 13,34,385 (excluding data of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep, which is not available in VAHAN 4) as on 14-07-2022 and a total of 2,826 public charging stations are operational in the country, as per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency," he said. Nitin Gadkari says planning electric highway between Delhi, Mumbai

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said the government is planning to construct an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai. He also urged heavy vehicle owners to use alternative fuels like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen in order to curb pollution. Addressing an event organised by the Hydraulic Trailer Owners Association, the road transport and highways minister said the government is constructing tunnels worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore. "Our planning is to make electric highway from Delhi to Mumbai. Just like trolleybus, you can run trolleytrucks also," he said, without providing more details. A trolleybus is an electric bus that draws power from overhead wires. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines.
