Yamuna water level in Delhi nears warning mark, likely to breach today

The water level in the Yamuna here neared the warning mark of 204.5 metres on Sunday following heavy rain in the upper catchment areas and is expected to breach it on September 26, officials said. The Delhi flood control room said the water level reached 204.4 metres at 9 pm. It is likely to rise to 204.7 metres between 10 am and 12 noon on Monday. A flood alert is sounded in Delhi when the discharge rate from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar crosses the 1 lakh-cusecs mark. People living near the floodplains and in flood-prone areas are evacuated then. The Delhi flood control room reported a discharge rate of around 45,352 cusecs at 8 pm. One cusec is equivalent to 28.32 litres per second. Normally, the flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage is 352 cusecs, but the discharge increases after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. Covid primary cause of death in 70 Delhi patients, incidental in 84 in Aug

Over 53 per cent of the Covid-related deaths reported in August in Delhi was of people who had succumbed due to co-morbodities or other causes but the coronavirus infection was "incidental", according to official data. As per the data shared by authorities, in cases of 70 fatalities in the month of August, COVID-19 was found as the "primary cause". In 84 deaths in August, coronavirus infection finding was "incidental", it said. The data on Covid-linked fatalities was shared in form of a graph, with month-wise data on deaths spanning March to September. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) met here on Thursday to review the Covid situation in the national capital and conduct an assessment of the dedicated resources deployed at the hospitals to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Traffic crawls in rain-soaked Delhi for 2nd day, yellow alert for Saturday

The national capital reeled under traffic snarls and waterlogging woes with several key road stretches dotted with puddles of water as incessant rains lashed the city for a second consecutive day Friday. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Saturday as well, cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in Delhi while heavy rains are expected at a couple of locations. The heavy rains disrupted the traffic movement with drivers having to negotiate waterlogged roads and stretches obstructed by fallen trees. Names of Dr Srinivas, Dr Behari sent for AIIMS Delhi top post: Report

With Dr Randeep Guleria's second extended tenure as the director of AIIMS, New Delhi ending on September 23, the names of two doctors have been recommended for the top job in the premier institute, sources said. It has been learnt that the names of Dr M Srinivas, Dean of Employees' State Insurance Company (ESIC) Hospital and Medical College in Hyderabad, and Dr Sanjay Behari, Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology, Trivandrum, have been sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for approval. Sisodia okays road redevelopment projects worth Rs 29.77 cr for west Delhi

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has approved road redevelopment projects worth Rs 29.77 crore for the city's western part, according to a statement. Nine west Delhi roads, including Najafgarh Road, Punjab Garden Road, Ginni Devi Road, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Marg, Pankaj Batra Marg and Lal Sai Mandir Marg, will be strengthened and given a new look under the project. The government will also strengthen the 10-km service lane between Mundka Industrial Area Metro Pillar No. 410 to 570 on Rohtak Road. Sisodia, who also holds the PWD portfolio, directed officials to follow safety norms during the construction work to avoid inconvenience to commuters. Singapore's Deputy PM to arrive in India for 5-day official visit on Sep 17

Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will arrive in India on Saturday on a five-day official visit to deepen the existing cooperation and identify opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration in new and emerging areas, the Prime Minister's Office here said on Friday. This will be Wong's first official visit to the country in his capacity as the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. He will participate in the inaugural India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) in New Delhi on Saturday, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement. 'Kartavya Path' to have 90 ice-cream carts, 30 water vending machines: NDMC

The newly-christened Kartavya Path can have a maximum of 120 ice-cream carts and water dispensing trolleys at six vending locations, NDMC said on Wednesday. New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay said that there are six vending zones on Kartavya Path between Central Vista Lawns and India Gate. "Each vending zone can have a maximum of 15 ice cream trolleys and five water dispensing kiosks. So cumulatively, 120 trolleys -- 90 ice cream trolleys and 30 water kiosks -- can be allowed in six vending areas. This is for better and effective management of vending kiosks," Upadhyay told PTI. He said that an order to this effect has also been issued. The NDMC order said that ice cream trolley trade licences have been issued. Daily Covid cases drop to 63 in Delhi, 1 death; active tally at 619

Delhi recorded one more death due to COVID-19 and 63 fresh cases of the infection with a positivity rate of 1.83 per cent on Monday, according to the data shared by the city health department. The new cases were detected from the 3,434 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin. With the new cases and fatalities, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 20,01,769 and the death toll has gone up to 26,494, according to the bulletin. On Sunday, the city logged 137 new Covid cases with a positivity rate of 1.36 per cent and two more fatalities. The national capital recorded no death due to Covid and 137 cases of the infection with a positivity rate of 1.17 per cent on Saturday. On Friday, the city saw 123 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 1.06 per cent and four fatalities.
