HC allows Uddhav-led Shiv Sena to hold Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park

In a shot in the arm for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, the Bombay High Court on Friday granted it permission to hold its annual Dussehra rally at the iconic Shivaji Park ground in central Mumbai. For the Thackeray faction the development has a symbolic value as Shivaji Park is associated with the Sena since its birth, and his group is locked in a tussle with the rebel group led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to establish itself as the 'real' Shiv Sena. The Shinde faction had also sought permission to hold the rally at the same venue on the same day (October 5), and opposed the Thackeray group's petition in the high court. Leopard cub found dead in Mumbai's Film City; forest dept denies poaching

A leopard cub aged eight to nine months was found dead inside the Film City in Mumbai on Sunday morning, but the forest department officials ruled out any poaching attempt as all body parts of the animal were intact. The necropsy report later revealed that respiratory complications and head trauma with bleeding were the primary causes of the death, a forest official said. "On Sunday morning, the control room of the forest department received a call from the Film City located in suburban Goregaon, informing that a leopard cub was found dead near a film set. The rescue team of the forest department reached the spot and recovered the carcass," he said. The body parts of the animal were found intact, and hence the possibility of poaching was ruled out in the initial investigation, he added. Mumbai logs 104 new Covid-19 cases, 2 casualties in last 24 hours

Mumbai on Sunday recorded 104 fresh cases of coronavirus and two deaths due to the infection, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. With this, the tally of cases has risen to 11,49,049 and toll to 19,725, he said. Of the latest cases, 14 patients have been hospitalised, with seven on oxygen support, taking the number of patients undergoing treatment at city hospitals to 141, the official said. As many as 185 patients have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, raising the count of recoveries to 11,28,253. With a recovery rate of 98.2 per cent, the city currently has 1,071 active cases, he said. At least 7,635 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of tests conducted so far to 1,82,30,558, the official said. The overall growth rate of cases between September 11 and 17 is 0.015 per cent and the doubling rate is at 4,925 days, he added.

Mumbai on Thursday reported 138 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the metropolis' tally to 11,48,640 and the toll to 19,722, a civic official said. On Wednesday, the city had seen 203 cases and two deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official pointed out. Of the new cases, only 14 are symptomatic, the official added. The recovery count rose by 289 and reached 11,27,609, leaving the city with 1,309 active cases, he added. BMC data showed that 1,82,05,946 coronavirus tests have been carried out in Mumbai so far, including 8,433 in the last 24 hours. This is lower than the 9,281 tests conducted in the preceding 24-hour period. It also revealed the recovery rate was 98.2 per cent and the growth rate of cases between September 8 and 14 was 0.019 per cent. The caseload doubling time was 3,783 days, as per official data.

Mumbai on Wednesday reported 203 new coronavirus cases, while two more patients succumbed to the infection in the city, the local civic body said. With these additions, the overall COVID-19 tally increased to 11,48,502, while the death toll rose to 19,721, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bulletin. On Tuesday, Mumbai had logged 193 COVID-19 cases, but zero fatalities linked to the infection. As per the bulletin, the new COVID-19 cases were detected after 9,281 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, pushing up their cumulative count to 1,81,97,513. A day ago, 6,691 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the financial capital. Mumbai's tally of recuperated cases rose to 11,27,320 after 314 patients recovered from the viral infection in the last 24 hours, the BMC said. The city has a coronavirus recovery rate of 98.2 per cent and is now left with 1,461 active cases, the bulletin said. Of the 203 new COVID-19 cases, only 11 patients were symptomatic, it said.

Heavy overnight rain in Mumbai; IMD forecasts cloudy sky, moderate showers
