Mohan Bhagwat should explain why only those from upper castes head RSS: AAP

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat must explain why it is always someone from the upper castes heading the organisation, the AAP demanded on Saturday, a day after his remark that concepts such as varna and jaati should be completely discarded. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party also attacked the BJP, saying it has "divided the country the most in the name of varna (class), jaati (caste) and dharma (religion)". At a book release function in Nagpur on Friday, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, had said the caste system has no relevance now and concepts such as varna and jaati should be completely discarded. "When he says such things, I want to ask the RSS chief why it is always someone from the upper castes who becomes the RSS chief," Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Durgesh Pathak said when asked by reporters for his comment on Bhagwat's remark. He, however, did not give any details on the caste of all the individuals who have headed th

RSS chief bats for comprehensive population policy for all communities

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday said India should have a population policy prepared after comprehensive thought and be applicable to all communities equally. Speaking at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Dussehra rally in Nagpur, Bhagwat said community-based population imbalance is an important subject and should not be ignored. Population imbalances lead to changes in geographical boundaries, he said. The new population policy should be applicable to all communities equally to strike a balance, he said. There has to be a balance among the communities in this country, he added. Pointing out at China's One family one child policy, Bhagwat said, While we are trying to control the population, we should see what happened in China. That country went for the one child policy and now it is getting older. With 57 crore youth population in India, we will remain a young nation for next 30 years, Bhagwat said. However, what will happen to India after 50 years? Will we have enough food t

Only India helped Sri Lanka, Maldives during crisis: RSS Chief Bhagwat

It was only India which helped Sri Lanka and Maldives when these countries were in distress while other countries were interested in finding business opportunities, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said here on Thursday. Spirituality is the "soul of India", he said, addressing a program organized by Bharat Vikas Manch, an organization associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). "Spirituality is the soul of India. What does India need to do? It is to tell everyone how to live life on the basis of this spirituality through our own example," he said. "Living life without ego" was the soul of India, he added. Countries like China, United States and Pakistan turned their attention to Sri Lanka when they saw business opportunities there, he said. "But now when Sri Lanka is in trouble, who is extending help? It is only India. Who sent water to the Maldives when it was facing a water crisis? It was India which did. This is the spiritual India," he said. Talking about all-round ...

RSS is working to make India 'model society' for entire world, says Bhagwat

The RSS is working to awaken and unify the society so that India can emerge as a "model society" for the entire world," its chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday. Bhagwat said people should come forward in serving society as a community and not as an individual. He was speaking at an event organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Delhi unit, on the various welfare activities carried out by its workers. "Sangh is working to awaken the society, unify it and make it more organized as a single entity...so that India can emerge as a model society for the entire world," Bhagwat said. The RSS chief further said many personalities from different sections of the society sacrificed and contributed to the country's Independence, but "it took time for us to flourish as one society". Owaisi ridicules RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks on Gyanvapi issue

Alleging that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh participated in the demolition of Babri Masjid "disrespecting" the Supreme Court and later defended the action saying it was necessary for "historic reasons", AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday questioned if the RSS would follow a similar method in the Gyanavapi issue. Reacting to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's speech on Thursday that the Gyanvapi dispute involves some issues of faith and the court's decision on it should be accepted by all, the Hyderabad MP in a series of tweets said forcible conversion was a lie and Bhagwat and his ilk cannot accept that people born in modern India are Indian citizens. It is irrelevant where their forefathers came from, or who they were, or what they did, Bhagwat said. "Bhagwat's incendiary speech on #Gyanvapi mustn't be ignored. He said an agitation for #Babri was necessary for historical reasons. In other words, RSS didn't respect SC & participated in demolition of masjid. Does this mean that ...
