The Congress in Meghalaya on Thursday promised monthly assistance of Rs 3000 to single BPL mothers and a job each to every household if the party comes to power in the northeastern state in the February 27 election. In the Congress' manifesto, which was released here, the party also promised to provide an uninterrupted electricity supply to commercial and domestic users, and bring in a law which will make it mandatory for the government to upload all files related to development and infrastructure on portals. If the Congress forms the government, it will transfer Rs 3,000 per month to single BPL mothers raising their children alone. This will empower women giving them financial independence and helping them run their houses in a better way. Election officials in Meghalaya seized over Rs 8 lakh cash and alcohol in West Garo Hills district, Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said on Friday. Election to the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly is scheduled for February 27 and the model code of conduct is in force in the state. "Unaccounted cash of Rs 8.96 lakh and alcohol worth over Rs 8,000 were seized in West Garo Hills district on Thursday," Kharkongor told PTI. With this, officials have seized cash amounting to over Rs 29 lakh from across the state after the model code of conduct came into force, the CEO said. A senior district police officer said the cash was seized from a person who was driving into the state from Assam. As the person carrying the cash could not provide any satisfactory and valid documents for the same the money was seized. Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra on Thursday said the state will be hosting a meeting of the G20 nations in April to discuss how space partnerships can contribute to the economy of the countries. India has decided to host around 200 G20 meetings across the country during its yearlong Presidency of the influential group. India assumed the Presidency of the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022. As part of the G20 programme, Shillong will be hosting the Space-20 program on April 17-18, Mishra said, addressing the Republic Day parade at the Polo Ground here. He said the programme here would be in continuation of the Space Economy Leaders Meeting held by the National Space Agencies of the G20 countries in 2020.
