Maruti Suzuki India vehicle production rises two-fold to 177k units in Sep

Maruti Suzuki India on Monday reported an over two-fold rise in its vehicle production at 1,77,468 units in September 2022. The company had produced a total of 81,278 units in the same month last year. "The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month," Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing. The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact, it said, however adding, as "production volume in September 2021 was adversely impacted due to shortage of electronic components, a year-on-year comparison may not be meaningful". Total passenger vehicles production was at 1,73,929 units last month. It was at 77,782 units in September 2022. Passenger cars production was up at 1,31,258 units as against 47,884 units in the same month a year ago. Utility vehicles production stood at 29,811 units during the period under review. The same was 21,873 units in September 2021, the company said. Production of light commercial

Maruti Suzuki India intern dies after 'wrong treatment' in Gurugram

A quack was arrested and charged with culpable homicide following the death of a 20-year-old Maruti Suzuki India intern due to alleged wrong treatment in IMT, Manesar, police said. Footage from CCTV cameras installed at the deceased's PG accommodation showed the quack and his friend dumping his body near, the police added. Leeladhar, a native of Jaandwa village in Rajasthan's Churu district, was interning with Maruti at IMT and lived in a PG in Aliar village. In his complaint to the police, the deceased's uncle Ramavtar said he was informed about Leeladhar's death on Tuesday. The police handed over his body after a post mortem, but Ramavtar said he had a doubt that his nephew died under suspicious circumstances. "I reviewed the CCTV footage and found that my nephew had fever and was being treated by Faieem, a quack from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh at Aalam clinic in Aliar village," Ramavtar said in his complaint. "The quack gave an injection to my nephew and asked him to sleep at the

Domestic PV sales may touch record level at nearly 4 mn units in 2022

Domestic passenger vehicle sales could touch a record level of nearly 40 lakh units this year on strong demand and companies finding ways to enhance production despite semiconductor shortage, a senior Maruti Suzuki India official said on Monday. Even as the chip shortage issue has improved compared to a year back, the industry is estimated to have a pending order of around 7.5 lakh units of passenger vehicles with Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) alone having around 4.18 lakh units, company Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava told PTI here. "I think it would be slightly below 4 million (units mark). At the moment the projections are that in January-September, maybe we should be touching like 2.8 or 2.9 million," he said when asked about the sales prospects of passenger vehicles (PVs) in the domestic market in 2022. He further said,"In three months time, that is October, November, December - if we get let's say one million more, then we should be around that 3

Maruti Suzuki aims to produce 2 mn units this fiscal: Chairman R C Bhargava

Maruti Suzuki India will increase its production and aims to produce 20 lakh units in the ongoing fiscal with improving availability of semiconductors, according to company Chairman RC Bhargava. In his address to shareholders in the company's annual report for 2021-22, he said the upcoming mid-sized SUV Grand Vitara will play a key role in the challenge to touch 20 lakh units. In 2021-22, total sales of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) increased by 13.4 per cent to 16.52 lakh units. It had lost out on sales in the first quarter of the fiscal due to the pandemic and production being affected by the shortage of semiconductors, mainly for domestic models, Bhargava wrote. "The number of unmet bookings with the company at the end of the year rose to about 2.7 lakhs," he said, adding MSIL's market share declined to 43.4 per cent from nearly 50 per cent as it lost some opportunity in the domestic market. As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, domestic passenger vehic
