Haryana govt considering announcing MSP on stubble to check its burning

As a measure to check air pollution, the Haryana government is considering announcing a minimum support price (MSP) on stubble so that farmers sell their crop residue instead of burning it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Wednesday. He said the number of stubble burning cases has come down substantially in Haryana. The state government gives Rs 1,000 per acre to farmers for not burning the crop residue, Khattar said, adding that it also helps them sell the crop residue to refineries and other industries. Asserting that his government is "very serious" about the issue of stubble burning, Khattar said, "We have succeeded in putting a check on stubble burning with cooperation from farmers by providing financial help to them and making them aware of its harmful effects." Eradicating corruption is the Haryana government's utmost priority and concrete steps have been taken in that direction, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday. He was speaking at a function organised in his honour at Nayagaon village here. He said that eight years ago, when he took over, no one in the state could have thought corruption can be eradicated. Haryana CM Khattar to meet Bhagwant Mann on Oct 14 over SYL canal issue

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann will meet to discuss the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue on October 14. The discussion between the two chief ministers has been scheduled after the Supreme Court had recently nudged them to meet and try to find an amicable solution. Kharif procurement to begin from Oct 1, Khattar holds high-level meeting

As procurement of various Kharif crops including paddy will begin in Haryana from October 1, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday evening chaired a high-level meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised by the officials that for this season government aims to procure around 55 lakh metric tonne of paddy. The procurement of Kharif crops will be done at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) as announced by the Government of India, said Khattar. The MSP of Rs 2,040 per quintal has been fixed for Paddy (common), Rs 2,060 per quintal for paddy (Grade-A), and Rs 2,350 per quintal for bajra. All obsolete laws will be abolished soon in Haryana: Chief Secretary

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Friday said that 20 of the 56 obsolete laws identified in the state have been repealed and asked the officials to work on scrapping of the remaining others. Kaushal was presiding over a meeting regarding the repeal of obsolete laws and acts, according to an official statement. The repealing of these laws was done following the recommendations of Haryana State Review Committee. The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd) Iqbal Singh, Commissioner of Gurdwara Commission, on the direction of the state chief minister. It took the decision to scrap these laws in consultation with the second Haryana Law Commission, the statement said. Kaushal said the review committee had recommended repealing of 56 obsolete laws and to amend six other laws and Acts.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday directed Forest Department officials to conduct a ward-wise survey in urban and rural areas to identify hollow old trees that are likely to pose danger to human life and property. SC community bodies to pay 20% of plot cost for religious sites: CM Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the scheduled caste (SC) community organisations will have to pay only 20 per cent of the total cost of plot for construction of any religious sites or social and charitable institutions in the state. Khattar took the decision while presiding over the 124th meeting of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran on Tuesday, according to an official statement. The chief minister further said if any religious place and social charitable sites are built by the organisation of Backward Class-A (BC-A) category, then it will have to pay 30 per cent of the total cost of the plot. At the same time, 40 per cent of the plot cost will have to be given by the Backward Class-B (BC-B) category. Notably, in the state, as many as 78 groups fall in the backward caste category, with over 70 of them falling in the BC (A), a sub-category of the backward castes (BCs).
