If needed, law against 'Love Jihad' to be made stronger: MP CM

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said that if required, the existing state law against "Love Jihad" would be made stronger in order to curb the incidents wherein men marry tribal women with the motive of grabbing their land. He was addressing a gathering of tribal people here on the death anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Tantya Bhil. Chouhan was referring to the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021, which prohibits conversion from one religion to another by use of misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, any other fraudulent means, allurement, or promise of marriage. The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi resumed on Sunday from Agar Malwa district on the last day of its Madhya Pradesh leg and will enter Rajasthan in the evening. Noted folk singer Prahlad Tipanya along with his group and Congress MLA Jitu Patwari were seen walking with Gandhi in the morning hours after the yatra commenced its onward journey from Lala Khedi village at around 6 am on the 12th and last day in Madhya Pradesh. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh has announced that a committee will be formed for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a function here on Thursday, where he asked why there were two personal laws in one country, and also alleged that some men marry women from tribal communities with the motive of usurping their land. Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday reported two coronavirus positive cases, but no patient succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said. With this, its tally rose to 10,54,901, while the toll remained unchanged at 10,776, he said. The recovery count stood at 10,44,113, leaving the state with 12 active cases. With 2,563 samples examined during the day, the number of coronavirus tests carried out in the state went up to 3,02,25,332, he added. The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi headed for Ujjain from Indore on Monday, the sixth day of its Madhya Pradesh leg. The foot march started in the morning from Indore's Bada Ganpati square. A cyclist joined the yatra here and Gandhi was seen riding his bicycle briefly. Case registered over video of pro-Pak slogans during Bharat Jodo Yatra

The Madhya Pradesh Police have registered a case in connection with a purported video pertaining to pro-Pakistani slogans raised during the Congress's Bharat Jodo Yatra, an official said on Sunday. While the Congress alleged it was a doctored video with which the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to defame the foot march led by Rahul Gandhi, the ruling BJP claimed the opposition party deleted the clip after a pro-Pakistani slogan was heard in it. Khargone's Superintendent of Police Dharmveer Singh Yadav said the case was registered at Sanawad police station against unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code Sections 153 (B) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) in connection with the video related to pro-Pakistani slogans.
