Lulu Group to invest Rs 3k cr to set up India's biggest mall at Ahmedabad

UAE-based billionaire Yussuf Ali's Lulu Group International is entering Gujarat, where it would invest Rs 3,000 crore to set up India's biggest shopping mall at Ahmedabad, a company official said. The construction of the Rs 3,000-crore shopping mall, which would have all modern facilities, will start early next year, said Lulu Group Director of Marketing and Communications V Nandakumar. This would be Lulu Group's third shopping mall in the country after Kochi, (Kerala) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and provide direct employment to 6,000 people and indirect employment to over 12,000 in the state, he added. Confirming the development, Nandakumar told PTI: "Discussions to acquire the land to construct this project are in the final stages and the foundation stone of this mega shopping mall will be laid early next year." UAE-based Lulu Group to invest Rs 3,500 crore in Tamil Nadu

UAE-based retail major Lulu group on Monday announced an investment of Rs 3,500 crore in Tamil Nadu to set up shopping malls, hypermarkets and a food-logistic park. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Monday by Pooja Kulkarni, Managing Director and CEO of Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance & Export Promotion Bureau and Ashraf Ali MA, Executive Director of Lulu Group, the company said in a statement. The MoU was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin; Industry Minister Thangam Thenarasu; Yusuffali MA, Chairman of Lulu Group; other officials and dignitaries at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce HO in Abu Dhabi. As per the MoU, the first shopping mall will come up in Chennai by 2024, while the first hypermarket is expected to open by this year-end itself at the Laxmi Mills compound in Coimbatore. LuLu Group retail arm to expand to 300 stores, eyes Rs 4-bn revenue by 2020

Tablez, the organised retail arm of LuLu Group International, is planning to expand its presence in India with around 300 stores in 2020. The company, which is a franchisee to global brands in food and beverages, toys, lifestyle and apparels, is expecting to turn profitable next year and targets a revenue of Rs 4 billion by 2020 from the current Rs 1 billion. The company at present has 42 stores of around six brands in its kitty and plans are to increase it to 10 brands soon. Tablez was established by LuLu Group with the launch of its shopping mall LuLu Mall in Kochi in 2013, but the retail arm started expanding from 2016. The company has signed master franchise agreements with brands like Springfield, Women'secret, Toys'R'Us and Babies'R'Us to market them in India. It has also recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chinese lifestyle brand YOYOSO to bring its stores to India.
