At least 2 killed, 6 severely injured in stabbings along Las Vegas Strip

An attacker with a large kitchen knife killed two people and wounded six others in stabbings along the Las Vegas Strip before being arrested Thursday, police said. Three people were hospitalized in critical condition and another three were in stable condition, according to Las Vegas police who said they began receiving 911 calls about the stabbings around 11:40 am on the north end of the Strip. Police didn't immediately release any information on the suspect or a possible motive. Witnesses told Las Vegas TV stations that the attacker struck in multiple locations, and some of the victims appeared to be showgirls or street performers who take pictures with tourists on the Strip. The suspect told a woman that he was a chef who wanted to take a picture with some of the showgirls with his knife, but he started stabbing people when the group declined the man's offer, the woman told KTNV. Police in Las Vegas arrest elected official in reporter's death case

A Las Vegas-area elected public official was arrested Wednesday as the suspect in the fatal stabbing of a veteran newspaper reporter whose investigations of the official's work preceded his primary loss in June. Clark County Public Administrator Robert Rob Telles, a Democrat, was taken into custody at his home by police SWAT officers hours after investigators served a search warrant and confiscated vehicles in the criminal probe of the killing of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German, Sheriff Joe Lombardo told the newspaper. Telles, 45, had been a focus of German's reporting about turmoil including complaints of administrative bullying, favouritism and Telles' relationship with a subordinate staffer in the county office that handles property of people who die without a will or family contacts. The newspaper's executive editor, Glenn Cook, said in a statement that the arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage for the Review-Journal newsroom. We are
