Ending all speculations, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Monday announced that he will be contesting the forthcoming Karnataka Assembly polls from Kolar constituency. The 75-year-old former chief minister, who was looking for a "safe seat", had been giving indications about choosing Kolar for some time now, by holding a series of meetings with party leaders from the district. "I have decided to be a candidate for the next election from Kolar," Siddaramaiah said at a public meeting here amid loud cheers from the crowd. "I have decided to contest from this constituency, but it is subject to approval from the high command," he said. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said services of the remaining 30,867 "Pourakarmikas" (civic workers) working in the State will be regularised in the coming days. He also felt that they should be addressed as "Poura Naukaras" and not "Pourakarmikas", stating that calling them by a different name will give them a sense of self-respect and dignity. He was speaking after distributing the appointment letters to the civic workers of various local bodies here. "There are 42,000 civic workers working in the State, of which the services of 11,133 people have been regularised. The services of others will be regularised in the coming days," Bommai said. The BJP-led Karnataka government on Monday tabled the second instalment of supplementary estimates for the current fiscal aggregating to Rs 8,001.13 crore. The supplementary estimates were tabled by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy on behalf of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who holds the Finance portfolio. The estimates are related to advance sanctioned form the contingency funds after the 2022-23 supplementary estimates- First instalment was placed before the legislature in September this year. The supplementary estimates aggregating to Rs 8,001.13 crore includes Rs 1,806.18 crore of charged expenditure and voted expenditure of Rs 6,194.95 crore. "Net outgo from consolidated fund is Rs 8,001.13 crore. A sum of Rs 1,134.72 crore is covered by Central Assistance, Rs 1,799.01 crore is met by adjustments. Hence, net cash outgo is Rs 5,067.4 crore," the government in its introductory note. The amount will be met through additional mobilisation of own revenue
Opposition Leader (Congress) in Karnataka Siddaramaiah on Saturday flayed the State government's alleged neglect and injustice towards backward class communities on the question of reservation in local bodies. Addressing reporters at Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district, he said the Basavaraj Bommai government has failed to hold elections to the local bodies within the specified time-frame. The Supreme Court had granted the government time till March 31, 2023, to finalise the reservation for the other backward class (OBC) communities. The delays and lethargic attitude of the government indicate that it is not serious about holding elections to the local bodies and is doing nothing on the quota issue. The Karnataka government has cleared a total of 59 investment proposals worth Rs 2,627.88 crore, promising to create 9,764 jobs. The proposals were cleared at the 136th State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) meeting held under the chairmanship of State Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh R Nirani here on Monday. The committee considered and approved seven important large and medium size industrial projects with investments of more than Rs 50 crore. These projects worth Rs 852.06 crore are expected to create employment opportunities for 3,860 people in the state, the Ministers office said in a statement. It said the SLSWCC also cleared 48 new projects with investments of more than Rs 15 crore and less than Rs 50 crore. These projects worth Rs 923.09 crore would generate jobs for 4,444 people in the state. Four projects of additional investment have also been approved which will result in an investment of Rs 852.73 crore and would generate 1,460 employment .
