JSW Steel hopes to start work on 12 mt Paradip steel plant in FY19

Sajjan Jindal led JSW Steel is looking at the possibility of starting project activity in the next fiscal on its 12 milion tonne mega steel plant proposed near Paradip in Odisha.The steel maker has committed an investment of Rs 55,000 crore on the integrated steel mill, 900 Mw captive power plant, 32 million tonne pellet unit, a captive port and a slurry pipeline to transport iron ore concentrates from Joda to the project site proposed near Paradip."JSW Steel can start work on the ground after they get land from the Odisha government. The government is processing the land requirement and we believe the identified land can be transferred to the company soon", said an Odisha government official.JSW Steel officials did not respond to queries sent by Business Standard. A questionnaire mailed to the company remained unanswered.The 12 million tonne steel unit by JSW Steel is to come up on 2700 acres land. JSW Steel seeks green nod for Odisha mega steel plant

Sajjan Jindal controlled JSW Group with interests in steel, infrastructure and energy, has sought the green nod for its mega steel plant cum captive power plant (CPP) proposed near Paradip in Odisha.The company has applied for environment clearance for the crude steel plant of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and 900 Mw CPP to be set up within the integrated steel plant complex.The expert appraisal committee (EAC) of the Union ministry of environment, forest & climate change (MoEF&CC) would take up JSW Steel's case at its upcoming meeting of industrial projects scheduled on November 15."JSW's bid for environment clearance for steel plant and CPP would be vetted by EAC at its next meeting for industrial projects. Along with the steel plant and CPP, a cement unit by the group is also on the agenda", said an official source.JSW Steel had originally proposed to set up a 10 mtpa capacity shore-based steel plant in Odisha. It had asked for 4500 acres of land for the steel mill. .

Sajjan Jindal owned JSW Steel is set to redraw its project design for the mega steel plant proposed in Odisha near Paradip. The company is now keen on 12 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) instead of 1o mtpa mill proposed initially."JSW Steel has of late evinced interest to set up a higher capacity steel plant. They have not elaborated on the reasons to go for 12 mtpa project or the technology they are going to introduce", said a senior government official with direct knowledge of the matter.JSW Steel, preferred not to participate in the story. OMC open to long-term linkage pact with JSW Steel

JSW Steel's proposed 10 million tonne steel project in Odisha has moved a step ahead with the state run miner Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) keen to have a long-term iron ore pact with the steel company.In its proposal, the company has pitched for a long-term agreement for 50 years with state owned Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) to supply 30 million tonne per annum of iron ore fines at IBM (Indian Bureau of Mines) declared price. JSW Steel has suggested that OMC may engage a Mine Developer cum Operator (MDO) on long-term basis to develop its large mines like Gandhamardhan and Dubuna. The objective is to secure long-term iron ore supplies for the steel plant."We already have the long-term linkage policy as approved by the government. We will be processing the JSW requirement accordingly", said a senior Odisha government official.Usually, OMC signs long-term linkage pact with its iron ore consuming industries for five years.
