Farm laws axe middlemen, allow farmers to sell to pvt firms: Jitendra Singh

Terming the new farm laws historic, Union minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said that farmers have been liberated from the shackles of middlemen and can now sell their produce to private traders as well. Interacting with sarpanches, Block Development Council (BDC) chairmen and local activists of the peripheral hill districts of Doda, Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir on the new agricultural laws, he said that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and APMC (Agricultural Produce & Livestock Market Committee) will continue and will never be removed at any cost. Hailing the move to eliminate middlemen through the new laws, the minister said that it was this class which was eating the income of the farmers and coming in the way of their progress, according to an official statement. Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said the Himalayan states and Union territories such as Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir offer unexplored potential for post-COVID resurgence. Addressing the 'Himalayan Divas' conclave here, Singh said for centuries, the Himalayas have stood like a custodian guarding India against foreign invasions and the assaults of nature. Citing scientific research, Singh said for a large part of the Indian subcontinent, Himalaya serves as a major source of water, flora and fauna. At the same time, rivers flowing along the Himalayas, whether it is the Indus or the Ganga, offer immense avenues which are yet to be fully explored, he said. First-ever cannabis medicine project coming up in Jammu: Jitendra Singh

The first ever cannabis medicine project will soon be set up in Jammu with Canadian collaboration, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Saturday. The Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office said it is the first major foreign investment in Jammu and Kashmir after it became a Union Territory (UT). The first ever cannabis medicine project will be set up with the collaboration of Canada at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) in Jammu, he said in a statement. The minister said special permission had to be obtained to produce the pain-relief medicine for patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, etc., using cannabis, which is otherwise restricted for use because of narcotic drug abuse. The medicine prepared from this plant can be utilised even for export to other countries, he said.
