Two drones used to carry out attack on Jammu Air Force base, say sources

Two drones were used to carry out an attack inside the Air Force base in Jammu on Sunday, sources said."There is no damage to any aircraft in the blasts. Two personnel suffered minor injuries," they added.Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) informed that two low-intensity explosions were reported early Sunday morning in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station.One of the blasts caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.There was no damage to any equipment, the IAF said.An investigation into the matter is in progress along with civil agencies, it added.

Former union minister and BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta passes away

Veteran BJP leader and former union minister Chaman Lal Gupta died after a prolonged illness at his Gandhi Nagar residence here on Tuesday, days after undergoing successful treatment for COVID-19 at a hospital, his family said. Gupta (87) is survived by his two sons and a daughter. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 5 and returned from Narayana hospital on Sunday after successful treatment. His condition suddenly deteriorated in the wee hours and he breathed his last around 5.10 am, his elder son Anil Gupta told PTI. Born in Jammu on April 13, 1934, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was not in good health for the last couple of years as he was suffering from various ailments and was hardly seen in public life. The deceased leader had an illustrious political career spanning over five decades after he became a member of the J&K Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1972. Protection under new land laws same as Himachal, U'khand laws: J&K govt

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday asserted that all safeguards and protection have been incorporated in the new land laws for the Union territory as have been enacted in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. "The laws do not mention anything like domicile (needed to purchase non-agriculture land in J&K). The domicile is issued under a separate act and is meant for jobs. So here, anybody can buy the non-agriculture property, but only agriculturists can buy agriculture land, Financial Commissioner Pawan Kotwal said at a press conference here. He was replying to a question on confusion among the public regarding buying of land in J&K by outsiders. The newly formed union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday inkedMemorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs 2,100 crore during its investment summit roadshow in the city here. "We want to maximise industrial growth and employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir. For this we are engaging in six city roadshows. Of this, we have already successfully concluded in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai," Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Planning, Development and Monitoring Rohit Kansal told reporters here at an investor roadshow organised by CII. "The roadshows will further cover cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad in February and March," he said.
