12 killed in stampede at Vaishno Devi shrine in J&K, 20 others injured

At least 12 people were killed and 20 others injured in a stampede at the famous Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir triggered by a heavy rush of devotees, officials said on Saturday. The stampede occurred near gate number three outside the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine atop Trikuta hills. The stampede was triggered by a heavy rush of devotees who have come to pay their obeisance to mark the beginning of the New Year, the officials said. Senior officials and shrine board representatives are on the spot. Officials said 12 people died in the stampede and their bodies have been removed to a hospital in the Katra base camp for identification and other legal formalities. Twenty more people were injured and majority of them are undergoing treatment at Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, the officials said, adding that the condition of four of the injured was stated to be "critical". J&K Bank board appoints Baldev Prakash MD & CEO for three years

Jammu & Kashmir Bank on Tuesday said its board of directors has appointed Baldev Prakash as the MD & CEO for three years. The board of directors in the meeting held on December 28 has appointed Baldev Prakash as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the bank for a period of three years, J&K Bank said in a regulatory filing. His appointment will be effective from the actual date of his taking charge, the bank said. The board also appointed R K Chhibber as an additional director on the board of the bank to be effective from the date Baldev Prakash takes charge as MD&CEO of the bank, it said further. J&K metro rail projects in final stage of approval: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said the proposals for metro rail projects in Jammu and Srinagar cities are in final stage of approval from the Public Investment Board. Addressing Jammu & Kashmir Real Estate Summit here, Puri urged the UT government to organise an annual summit like World Economic Forum at Davos, in J&K and assured full support from the Centre. The minister highlighted that metro projects will soon be a reality in J&K. "Metro projects are in final stage of PIB approval," Puri said. He further said the Centre would consider the demand to extend the metro projects to the proposed AIIMS hospital outside Jammu. He complimented the J&K government for implementing the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) law and also Model Tenancy Act, circulated by the Centre to all states and UTs. J&K govt inks 39 MoUs worth Rs 18 cr with country's real estate investors

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday opened the union territory to the country's real estate investors by signing 39 MoUs worth Rs 18,300 crore for the development of housing and commercial projects. Terming the signing of the MoUs at J&K Real Estate Summit here "historic'', Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said it is a major step towards transformation of the UT. Addressing a press conference at the summit, he said the government has already implemented the realty law RERA and adopted Model Tenancy Act in the UT. He emphasised that the government will consider reducing stamp duty on registration of properties and set up a single-window system for faster approval of projects. "We have signed 39 MoUs today.
