Railways to operate Vande Bharat Metro from Jammu to Srinagar: Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said a Vande Bharat Metro train will be operated between Jammu and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir once the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) becomes fully operational. Addressing mediapersons at the first run of a track-mounted trolley on the world's highest arch bridge constructed on the Chenab river, he said the USBRL project will be completed by December this year or January 2024. Vaishnaw travelled on the track-mounted trolley with railway officials and inspected the iconic bridge having the height of 359 metres from the Chenab riverbed. JKPCC holds Sankalp Satyagraha against Rahul's disqualification from LS

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Sunday held a day-long Sankalp Satyagraha' against Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from Lok Sabha, with party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir accusing the BJP government at the Centre of being undemocratic. Infiltration bid foiled in Jammu Kashmir's Karnah, one intruder killed

An unidentified intruder was killed by security forces during a foiled infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday, officials said. Alert troops noticed suspicious movement along the Line of Control at Jabdi in the Karnah area in the morning, the officials said. The security forces challenged the intruders and, in the ensuing gunfight, one infiltrator was killed, they added. One AK rifle and some ammunition was recovered from the scene, the officials said.

NGO terror funding case: Court sends Parvez, Mehraj to 10-day NIA custody

A court here on Wednesday granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) 10 days' custody of two people accused in a case related to NGO terror funding. Principal District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma allowed 10 days of custodial interrogation of human rights activist Khurram Parvez and his "close associate" Irfan Mehraj on two separate applications by the federal agency for 12 days' custody of each of them. "I have heard the counsel for the accused persons and having regard to the facts disclosed in the two applications and to unearth the incriminating material and other links concerning their unlawful activities besides the aspect of confrontation with digital evidence, the applications are allowed and both the accused persons are remanded to police custody of the NIA for a period of 10 days," the judge said. He also said that the accused persons should be medically examined on each day of remand and produced before the court on April 1. The National Investigation Agency .

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday welcomed the opening of the Sharda Devi Temple near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. She also expressed hope of resumption of cross-LoC trade. This is very good. We have always been saying that we need to engage, reconcile and resolve things. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said the drive to evict illegal occupants of state land in Jammu and Kashmir will be resumed and the recovered land used to fuel industrial revolution in the Union Territory. "We took the lands. Let me make it clear that we will take back all state land. The state land must remain with the government," Sinha said at the foundation-laying ceremony of first FDI project in Jammu and Kashmir at Sempora here. The Union Territory administration launched the eviction drive in January this year but had to stop it following protests. Rs 900 cr sanctioned for holistic development of agriculture sector in J&K

An amount of Rs 900 crore has been sanctioned by the Centre for holistic development of the agriculture sector in Jammu and Kashmir, a government official said, participating in a Kisan Mela' here. The day-long Mela evoked a massive response with over 900 farmers and other stakeholders including agri startups turning up to know about the latest scientific farming techniques and different government schemes. SIA conducts raids at multiple locations in J-K in terror-funding case

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday in connection with a terror-funding case, officials said. They said searches were conducted at multiple locations in south Kashmir's Anantnag and Kulgam districts. Those raided included relatives of Sarjan Barkati, who shot to fame during street protests in 2016, the officials said. They said the searches were carried out by the SIA sleuths, who were assisted by police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The searches were part of an ongoing probe into a terror-funding case, the officials said.

Four killed, 28 injured as bus overturns in J-K's Pulwama: Officials

Four people were killed and 28 injured on Saturday when the bus in which they were travelling turned turtle as the driver lost control of the vehicle in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The incident took place on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Barsoo area of the south Kashmir district, they said. Four passengers, all residents of Bihar, died in the accident. Twenty-eight passengers were injured and 23 of them have been taken to various hospitals here for treatment, the officials said. Further details are awaited.

Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in J-K's Pulwama

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said. A police official said security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Mitrigam area of Pulwama in south Kashmir after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants there. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated, the official said.
