IPL ticket advisory: No CAA/NRC protest banners allowed during matches

The spectators coming to watch IPL matches in four cities including Delhi, Mohali, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, will not be allowed to carry protest banners related to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), according to a specific advisory. 'Paytm Insider', which is the ticketing partner of Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, has listed a few 'prohibited items' and one of them is banners related to CAA/NRC Protest. It is understood that the advisory has been issued by the franchises, that manage the ticketing business of their respective home matches. It is usually done in consultation with the BCCI as marquee sporting events do not allow any publicity of any sensitive political or policy issues. The Citizen Amendment Act, 2019, better known as CAA was passed by the Parliament of India on December 12, 2019. The CAA allowed minorities like Sikhs, Parsis, Jain

Kane Williamson ruled out of IPL owing to injury, Gujarat Titans confirm

Kane Williamson, the Gujarat Titans batter, has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League owing to a knee injury, the franchise said on Sunday. The New Zealand batting mainstay sustained the injury during the season opener against Chennai Super Kings here last Friday. Williamson sustained the injury to his right knee while attempting a catch during the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. "It is sad to lose Kane to injury so early in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery, with the hope of seeing him in action very soon," said GT's director of cricket, Vikram Solanki, in a press release. Williamson will now head home to New Zealand for further assessment, the defending champions said in the press release. Gujarat Titans will finalise a replacement for the right-handed batter and an announcement will be made in due course. The 32-year-old got injured following a nasty fall while fielding on the boundary during the CSK innings. He had limped off the field in the 13t

If Ruturaj continues this way, he will do wonders for cricket: Hardik

Chennai Super Kings batter Ruturaj Gaikwad's dazzling knock of 92 went in vain in the IPL opener against Gujarat Titans but opposition captain Hardik Pandya was all praise of him, saying that he will do wonders for Indian cricket. Gaikwad's classy knock off just 50 balls from which he struck four boundaries and nine sixes took CSK to 178 for 7. The Titans, however, chased down the target with four balls to spare, riding on Shubman Gill's 63 off 36 balls on Friday. "Some of the shots he (Gaikwad) played was nothing to do with the bowling. There were some tremendous shots. Full credit to him the way he batted, and if he continues to do so he is going to do wonders for Indian cricket," Pandya told reporters at the post-match conference. "He has the game and when the time comes I am sure the Indian cricket team will back him enough," he said. The 26-year-old Gaikwad has played nine T20Is after making his debut in July 2021, scoring 135 runs at a modest average of 16.87. He had also pla

IPL beckons for debut in Northeast as Guwahati gears up for 2 matches

The Northeast is all set to debut as an Indian Premier League (IPL) host for the first time since the marquee tournament started, with two Rajasthan Royals' 'home' games scheduled in Assam's Guwahati next month. The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium has been designated as one of the home' venues for RR, which will take on the Punjab Kings on April 5 and Delhi Capitals on April 8. We were allotted two IPL matches of RR in 2020. But, the matches couldn't happen due to the outbreak of COVID-19. We are happy two games have been scheduled here this year, ACA secretary Tridib Konwar told PTI. He said preparations are in full swing, and ACA is working in close coordination with the Rajasthan Royals team. We urge the cricket lovers of Assam as well as the entire Northeast to come and watch the matches. Rajasthan Royals has already started online ticketing for the games, Konwar said. The Jaipur-based franchise had earlier partnered with the association for a cricket academy, which is

Vice-captaincy is a reward of my hardwork: Delhi Capitals' Axar Patel

Axar Patel is excited about his new role as Delhi Capitals vice-captain, terming the responsibility entrusted upon him as a reward for all the hardwork he has put in for the franchise over past few seasons. "In my opinion, if you have gotten this role that means you are growing as a senior player. It's like getting a reward for all that you've done for the team. I'm excited about this role," the lanky all-rounder said in a video posted on DC's twitter handle. "Our team is mostly the same, we have the same players from the last 3-4 years. We know our players well and that will be an important point." Axar will be deputy to Australian David Warner, who has been named as DC skipper for this season in place of Rishabh Pant, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation following a horrific car accident in December. Axar said that he would provide full support to new skipper Warner. "David is a talented player. I will provide him with an atmosphere where he can make best use of his abilit

It feels like a dream: MI captain Harmanpreet after winning WPL title

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur called it a "dream" after Mumbai Indians emerged champions of the inaugural Women's Premier League here on Sunday. MI first restricted Delhi Capitals to 131 for nine and then overhauled the target with three balls to spare to record a seven wicket win in the summit clash. "It has been a great experience, we were waiting for this for so many years. Everyone enjoyed this throughout the dressing room. It feels like a dream, for everyone here," Harmanpreet said during the post-match presentation. "So many people were asking when WPL will come and that day is here, and we are so happy and proud." MI were 23 for 2 in the fourth over while chasing 132 to win but Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed a 55-ball 60 not out to take them home. "I think having a long batting line-up, we had to go there and express. Very happy with how everyone performed. I think staying positive is key, we were lucky with full tosses going in our favour," the MI skipper said. "This is a special mo
